This year, I changed my working style drastically. All along until now, I would be the kind to power forward and finish the bulk of my tasks before I would consider filling my own cup. It’s probably the fusion of my personal and professional lives that holds me in a noose. Sometimes I just wanna get away from it all — and just be me.
Which is why Thursday has become my favourite day of the week. Designed as the day of respite by my school, it comes wrapped with a mind-blowing afternoon devoid of meetings and commitments (for most weeks). I have learnt to embrace it whole-heartedly, leaving school on the dot to meet up for lunch with a cherished friend. Thank goodness for friends who willingly come down to Yishun to hit me up and grant me back some sanity.
In previous years, I would not have initiated meeting up with anyone, preferring to carve up my own sanctuary in front of Netflix, with a can of Asahi in tow. The fact that I am organising meet-ups may mean that I am coping well and getting my mojo back.
