What I have done to help students improve their oral skills

1) Sent detailed feedback to all students.

2) Wrote my model answers and disseminated them to selected students to practise. It is hoped that they will remember certain key phrases that they can leverage during exams.

T: From the picture, I can see several children playing in the rain.
R: I believe they made an intentional decision to play in the rain, as they are wearing raincoats.
E: The children must be feeling delighted / ecstatic because they are smiling widely and jumping energetically / enthusiastically. They are having fun and enjoying one another’s company.
E: Personally, I do not play in the rain nowadays because I am in Primary 6, and doing so might make others give me awkward looks. However, I do not mind playing at water parks. In fact, I occasionally go to the water park at Northpoint City with my friends.
S: I think it is great that they choose to take a break from screen time. When we do physical activities, our bodies release endorphins, which is beneficial for our health.

Choose between delighted and ecstatic.
If energetically / enthusiastically, just say jumping happily.

I like sunny weather the most because it offers me a variety of benefits.

Firstly, it allows me to stay active. I frequently go swimming or play football with my friends. This enables me to spend quality time with them. We can exercise together and forget about our stresses.

In addition, sunny weather encourages me to explore new places. I like nothing better than hopping on my bicycle and visiting places I have never been to before. In this way, I gain unique experiences.

Many students don’t like sunny weather because it makes them sweat. However, I believe that it helps us to rely less on our phones as a source of entertainment. This is why sunny weather appeals to me the most.

I believe that children nowadays are more protected than in their parents’ time.

Take security as an example. When my parents were in primary school, there were no security guards stationed at their school entrance. My father has told me stories of how he and his friends used to leave the school and play block catching before coming back for remedial lessons. His form teacher would not even know where they were! However, these days, we must stay at Yishun Primary School throughout the entire day.
I believe that it is for our own good, though. If we venture outside, we may be susceptible to injuries. Suspicious characters may also cause us harm.
So, I don’t think that we are overly protected.

3) Informed parents of recalcitrant students who shun practising. Parents will exert pressure on their charges to practise.

4) Have given selected students new homework so that they can apply the skills needed.

5) Updated my vice-principal, who underscored the importance of getting students to practise face to face.
