The new Amazon Prime series only gives us a taste in this first episode, the expectations and ideas seem to be really tempting.
As a kid I loved Next Generation, the only Star Trek series I followed really passionately. Our Jean Luc is now retired and lives in a villa in the French countryside. This new life surrounded by nature and tranquility doesn't seem to be for him, accustomed to the action in the deepest space.
Dreams, premonitions, unexpected encounters. An old character will be recurring in everyone, Data. His android friend will turn out to have given birth to a daughter and still be half intact and kept in a laboratory. A superficially recounted war tells that humans and and androids had an abominable conflict, but not all reality seems to have been correctly reported to the people.
Picard will have to deal with television interviews he doesn't like, he will meet one of the twins created by his old friend, who seem destined to be linked to his destiny.
An enigmatic ending opens the door to an interesting continuation of the series. There's a lot of curiosity about it, fans like me have really enjoyed this unexpected return.
Action scenes were never the strong point of the British actor, who was already sitting on the dashboard at the time and was rarely on the front line. Just think that at the tender age of 80 he still manages to run and appear at least 2 decades younger than in reality.
The American "robot" friend is nine years younger than the lead actor but also thanks to the makeup that even at the time rejuvenated him seems to be much younger than 71 years old.
The commercial move of wanting to compete with Netflix and its high level series is quite evident. Critical reviews and public acclaim seem to have hit the nail on the head so far.
Even this one, unlike the '80s and '90s, where every episode was often self-conclusive, will have a logical and uninterrupted as the "rival".
The production seems to have had more than one difficulty convincing the captain to return to the scene, but they finally made it. Here's an extract from an interview with Patrick Stewart:
One of the things that convinced me to do this new series was the huge difference between the man I played then and the man I play now. This created a fascinating acting problem for me, connecting the two characters and showing the impact that the 17 years that have passed on this individual.
A nostalgic revival that promises long life for all Trekkers on the planet Earth.

Picard é tornato, e non é solo. La nuova serie Amazon Prime ci propone soltanto un assaggio in questa prima puntata, le aspettative e gli spunti sembrano essere davvero allettanti.
Da ragazzino amavo Next Generation, l'unica serie di Star Trek che seguivo appassionatamente. Il nostro Jean Luc adesso é ormai in pensione e vive in una villa immersa nella campagna francese. Questa nuova vita immersa nella natura e nella tranquillità non sembra fare per lui, abituato all'azione nello spazio più profondo.
Sogni, premonizioni, incontri inaspettati. Una vecchia conoscenza sarà ricorrente in tutti, Data. Il suo amico androide si scoprirà aver dato alla luce una figlia ed essere ancora semi intatto e custodito in un laboratorio. Una guerra raccontata superficialmente racconta che umani e androidi hanno avuto un conflitto abominevole, ma non tutta la realtà sembra essere stata riportata correttamente al grande pubblico.
Picard si troverà a dover a che fare con interviste televisive a lui poco gradite, conoscerà una delle due gemelle create da suo vecchio amico, le quali sembrano destinate ad essere legate al suo destino.
Un finale enigmatico apre le porte a una continuazione della serie che si prospetta interessante. La curiosità a riguardo é tanta, i fans come me hanno gradito assai questo ritorno inaspettato.
Le scene d'azione non sono mai state il punto forte dell'attore inglese, che già ai tempi sedeva in plancia e si trovava raramente in prima linea. Pensate che alla tenera età di 80 anni riesce ancora a correre e apparire con almeno 2 decadi in meno rispetto alla realtà.
L'amico "robot" Americano ha nove anni in meno del protagonista ma anche grazie al trucco che anche all'epoca lo ringiovaniva sembra avere molto meno di 71 anni.
La mossa commerciale di voler fare concorrenza a Netflix e la sua serie di alto livello é abbastanza evidente. Dalle recensioni della critica e l'acclamazione del pubblico per ora sembra aver colpito nel segno.
Anche questa, a differenza di quelle anni '80/'90, dove ogni puntata era spesso auto conclusiva, avrà un filone logico e ininterrotto come la "rivale".
La produzione sembra aver avuto più di una difficoltà a convincere il capitano a tornare in scena, ma alla fine ce l'ha fatta.

Una delle cose che mi hanno convinto a fare questa nuova serie è stata l'enorme differenza tra l'uomo che interpretavo allora e quello che interpreto ora. Questo mi ha creato un affascinante problema di recitazione, collegare i due personaggi e far vedere l'impatto che i 17 anni che sono passati hanno avuto su questo individuo.
Un revival per nostalgici azzeccato che promette lunga vita a tutti i Trekkers del pianeta terra.
