Some newspapers report the news that different companies want to create a real elevator to connect the earth to the moon, trying to reach it in much more reasonable times than before.
This idea isn’t really new, indeed, in 1895 this idea came to mind to the Russian scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, who started working on it.
Browsing the net I found many articles about it that are repeated over time and during the time they become more and more insistent in sustaining that it is a credible option.
The construction of the elevator, from what was declared by the same companies involved in the project, it would also have a lower cost than the launch of rockets that so far have been used to reach the planet, even if is not a planet, as rotating around the earth it is called “natural satellite”.
The earth as everyone knows really well is in continuous movement since it rotates on itself, so they have the idea of fixing the cable, or a strand of nanotubes, whose head would be fixed in proximity of the equator to obtain maximum centrifugal force and keep it in tension.
The distance to be reached is 96.000 kilometers, according to the Japanese company Obayashi will be completed by the year 2050, in the matter of carbon nanotechnology development, it can transport up to 30 people for a total duration of 7-day trip.
A huge strand that, always according to the Japanese company, has not yet been realized, but by 2030 could be ready.
Meanwhile Elon musk is making his own spaceship called Space X, which would be almost ready to bring into space the first tourist, who will go to do a tour around the moon.
A real race to reach the moon, after the lunar landing of the Apollo 11 that happened almost 50 years ago, when the technology available to man was much more limited than today.
Google, European Space Agency and Liftport group, are some of the companies that are working on this project, the first one has temporarily abandoned the project due to material problems.
I have no technical competence about it, but intrigues me a lot, I am not able to express a competent opinion, like all innovative things I find it hard to believe that it is achievable but at the same time I find a lot fascinating.
And you? What do you think? Do you think we will be able to watch the first trip in elevator on the moon? Would you like to test it?
