The discussion platform ░R░e░d░d░i░t░ is launching its digital [̲̲̅̅t̲̲̅̅o̲̲̅̅k̲̲̅̅e̲̲̅̅n̲̲̅̅].
Users will soon be able to earn tokens by simply writing comments. The token can be used to purchase animated emoticons, exclusive badges, gifs.
However, this is an ERC 20 from Ethereum.
Reddit is trying to anticipate Facebook and Telegram who have long wanted to launch their token. Telegram appears to have revised its plans to issue a token for use on its network. Facebook, on the other hand, is carrying out its Libra project but it has been talked about for too long and things are slow.
Aaron Brown (Bloomberg): "the plan is to introduce the token and gradually transform it into a currency to be exchanged"
The tokens will be nicknamed "̅̅c̅̅o̅̅m̅̅m̅̅u̅̅n̅̅i̅̅t̅̅y̅̅ ̅̅p̅̅o̅̅i̅̅n̅̅t̅̅s̅̅" and may initially be used to purchase content and subscriptions on the site. Then swapped. Users will also have their own wallet.
However, much remains to be done to make this happen.
Reddit for its part says that cryptocurrency is just a test.
One subreddit that will perform the test is FortNiteBR (player who plays Fortnite: Battle Royale). The link can be found here: FortNiteBR (Subreddit)
Online players are already familiar with the token concept called [̲̲̅̅V̲̲̅̅-̲̲̅̅B̲̲̅̅u̲̲̅̅c̲̲̅̅k̲̲̅̅s̲̲̅̅](token that is earned in the game precisely).
Reddit will need to be vigilant to make sure the system works.
Theoretically only intelligent comments should be rewarded and not the classic "thank you", "ok", "good news", etc.
And this will not be easy to implement because it is subjective.
