World Health Organization's Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has declared that the coronavirus outbreak has rose to a global death toll of 4,600 and the number of confirmed cases to be 125,000. The U.S Death toll climbed to 33 and the number of U.S. cases rolled past 1,200 and has spread to at least 38 states. 

Although this is the first pandemic caused by a coronavirus, “we also believe that this is the first pandemic that is able to be controlled,” Dr. Tedros added. He pointed out several times of the success that China has for cutting down the infection rate from 3,500 daily to a mere 24 infected in a day. South Korea and Singapore also recently saw a decrease in cases of infections.

Tom Hanks Tested Positive

Tom Hanks recently took to instagram to report that both he and his wife Rita Wilson were tested positive for COVID-19. Both Hanks and Rita were in Australia for a production with Baz Luhrmann to work on an untitled Elvis Presley film by Warner Bros. Warner Bros recently released a statement saying that it became aware that someone in the production was diagnosed with coronavirus, and it is working with Australian health agencies to make sure that the production is safe. 

NBA Player Suspension and Games Cancelled

NBA also suspended one of their players who tested positive for COVID-19.  The test result was reported shortly prior to the tip-off of tonight’s game between the Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder at Chesapeake Energy Arena.  At that time, tonight’s game was canceled. A French player that goes by the name Rudy Gobert, the center star player from Utah was reported to be the afflicted. The NBA is suspending game play following the conclusion of tonight’s schedule of games until further notice. The NBA will use this hiatus to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic. The NBA becomes the first league in North America to suspend their games during pandemic, thus putting pressure on NCAA, XFL, NHL to do the same.

Major League Baseball has already barred the media from its locker rooms in an effort to limit potential exposure to its players, coaches and staffers.

However the NFL draft is scheduled for April in Las Vegas, and there are already rumors saying that the drafting shouldn't be a public event, as it has been in the past. 

The Current Situation

Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci, stated that the worst is yet to come. He explained that any time there is an outbreak with enough cases of “community spread,” which means the source of the infection is unknown, “you’re not going to able to effectively and efficiently contain it.”

San Francisco and Seattle has banned large gatherings. Washington Gov. Jay Inslee announced a ban on gatherings and events of more than 250 people in the Seattle metropolitan area, where the virus has killed more than 20 people. He stated that the ban would last for at least two weeks and starts with the Golden States Warriors game on Thursday, where they will play on home court without fans. 

Strangely enough, public schools in San Francisco still remains open, while some private schools have decided to closed. However dozens of Universities around the U.S have opted out for online classes, and dorms were emptied out. Elite schools such as Harvard, Princeton and Stanford and large schools such as the state and city universities of New York, UCLA, the University of California-Berkeley, the University of Maryland and the University of Washington are among dozens going virtual.

A new study have found that Coronavirus can remain airborne for hours and some for days. However this does not mean if you breathe the air you will get infected. The number one suspect of contamination is still person-to-person contact. 

President Donald Trump announched a 30-day traveling suspension for anyone who comes from Europe to the U.S in an effort to curb the spread of the virus. Trump addresses that the European Union had "failed to take the same precautions" as the U.S had implemented to contain the outbreak. The restriction does not effect the United Kingdom who has 400 cases of COVID-19 as of this Wednesday. Trump also blamed travelers from Europe for bringing coronavirus to the U.S. by stating: "A number of new clusters in the United States were seeded by travelers from Europe."

In the other side of the country, Italy, where the country still remains on lock-down, recently had its case number jumped past 12,000 and a staggering death toll of 827, which is second to China. The global death toll is currently at 4,584 and 125,000 people are infected and rapidly increasing. 3,100 people of those who died was from mainland China. Most of the people who are infected by the virus only gets mild or moderate symptoms such as fever, cold, and cough but however, can develop further illness such as pneumonia, especially in older adults with already existing health problems.
