Altho this happened last year, I remember it like it was yesterday.
I had to go out to the doctor to fill out my prescription because it was the time of the month(each beginning of the month I have to refill it).
After I got my prescription, I stopped at a few pharmacies but they didn't have one of the many medicines I take but one of the pharmacies told me to try tomorrow.
On my way back home, I saw an old man, torn clothes, a long grey beard, and a lot of wrinkles on his face looking thru trash cans.
Having the money for my medicine that I haven't spent, I stopped by and asked him:
Old man, do you need some help?
He was so afraid of people that he answers very slow and soflty...no mister.
I don't know what came to me but i asked him again, but more gently:
Old man, how can I help you? just tell me.
Seeing my voice was calm and soft(my usual voice is very high and loud) he finally answered:
I could use some food.
So I told him:
Can you wait here for a few minutes?
He said yes.
I went to the nearest shop and bought something to eat (not much cause i couldn't afford what I wish to get for him)
Returned and gave him what i have bought.
He thanked me and I left.
The next day I went to the pharmacy to get my prescription and on my way back home, guess who I stumble upon?
Yes, the same old man.
This time, I saw that he was digging real hard thru a trash can and was looking ahead at another one(another trash can) so I went to the nearest shop and bought again something that I could afford.
I went to him and gave him what I bought.
His answer was very interesting to me?
He said:
Again? Why?
Honestly, my answer was very fast and it came so naturally:
Why not?
Oooo, I wish I could describe the feeling I had when I saw his face lightening up and a small smile that I saw thru that big beard...I truly was amazing, a feeling that..pffuuu.
I shook his hand(didn't care it was dirty) pated his back and just said:
Have a nice day, stay safe and God bless you too(he wished me the same).
The moral of my story is that no matter who poor you are, there is always someone poorer than you and you can make someone smile by sharing a small portion of what you have.
The world would be such a better place if we helped the poor and treat them with respect and dignity, cause they are humans like us(not animals like many treat them).
So, if you want to help someone, you can.
You may not help much but even as little as you can, it makes a difference plus you will get a feeling inside that I promise you that it all worth it.
Spread some love....it doesn't cost you as much as you think.
This is a true story.
Disclaimer:
I didn't had his picture but I found one similar to him online(i don't have a good phone to take pictures).
Thank you for your time.
Have a great day ahead or a good night(depending on your time-zone) and stay safe.
