TL;DR: This company is selling a 16GB USB with a Free OS for $100 and claiming it's the most secure OS out there.
Zerotrace, claims to have made the most secure OS (Operating System) out there, running on a disguised USB (A ballpoint pen with a USB inside) for just $100. Their website says "The most secure plug & play device for remaining anonymous".
I looked into it for a bit, and I came to realize that they are running a Free & Open-Source Linux distribution called Tails with about 15 extra applications installed. I asked their support team about this but they kept trying to convince me that this is a fully customized OS built from scratch, "We provide our own OS that is fully customized from scratch!" - Says Patrick from the support team. (I'll get to "Patrick" later.)
Small story short, this company is selling a 16GB disguised USB, with a Free & Open-Source Linux distribution install for $100, and claiming it's their own made from scratch project, which is apparently the most secure out there.
The worst thing is that they're targeting older people and people that don't know much about PCs and convincing them into thinking that they need a Zerotrace pen to continue using the internet.
You could easily create a Zerotrace pen yourself for about $15 or maybe even less. (I have recreated the "customized Zerotrace OS" and it took me about 20 minutes.)
Now let's talk about their support team and specifically "Patrick" who is apparently their Community Leader. On their chat widget on the website, they are using a picture of a black male for Patrick. When I reverse searched the image, I found that this person is indeed not Patrick. It's someone called "David Gamble Jr." an American football player. I asked Patrick himself about this, but he ignored me and just said "Do you have any other questions about our product." This makes their company seem even more suspicious as they don't have any real pictures or names of the creators on their website, only video's made by the community and people that bought the pen.
I just wanted to inform everyone about this, thanks for reading. I hope you have a nice day!
