Rams/Bengals Super Bowl Matchup

Super Bowl LVI Predictions! Cincinnati Bengals vs. Los Angeles Rams

Well, to cap off a crazy and unpredictable 2021 NFL season, the Super Bowl will be held this Sunday, February 13th at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, CA. The NFC representative will be the Los Angeles Rams, who make it 2 years in a row that the team who's stadium is hosting the Super Bowl plays in the Super Bowl. The AFC representative will be the Cincinnati Bengals, who not only hasn't won a playoff game in 31 years (until this year), but also were a combined 6-25-1 in the last 2 seasons, and are now in the Super Bowl. To start off, let's talk about the Los Angeles Rams.

Los Angeles Rams 2021 Season:

The Rams road to the Super Bowl, in my opinion, started on March 18th, 2021, when a blockbuster trade was made involving the Rams starting QB Jared Goff, and the Detroit Lions starting QB Matthew Stafford. In that trade, the Rams traded away Jared Goff and 3 draft picks to Detroit in exchange for Matthew Stafford. Rams fans were buzzing about this trade and were hyped for the new season.

The Rams started the season at 7-1, with their only loss coming to their division rivals, the Arizona Cardinals, who were undefeated at the time. The Rams then hit a bit of a skid, losing 3 straight games to the Titans, 49ers and Packers. However, they ended the season very strong, winning 5 of their last 6 games and winning the NFC West division title for the first time since 2018 and the 3rd time in the last 6 years, when they went from the St. Louis Rams to the Los Angeles Rams. In the playoffs, the Rams were the 4 seed and had to defeat the Arizona Cardinals, defending Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the San Francisco 49ers. Key players for the Rams are going to be Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, Tyler Higbee and Aaron Donald. If the Rams secondary can keep Ja'Marr Chase on lock, I don't see any reasons why the Rams can't win this game easily. The challenge will be keeping Ja'Marr Chase covered and make Burrow and the offense need to go to other weapons.

Cincinnati Bengals 2021 Season:

Cincinnati Bengals Logos History ...

The Bengals season started off by getting QB Joe Burrow back from injury. Burrow missed the final 6 games last year after tearing his ACL and MCL. He came back with a vengeance this year, leading the Bengals to their first playoff appearance since 2015 and their first playoff win since 1990. The Bengals signed star DE Trey Hendrickson in Free Agency from the New Orleans Saints and his presence was felt immediately. Another key acquisition for Cincy was in the draft. LSU WR Ja'Marr Chase was the Bengals first round pick in the 2021 draft and he is the clear leader in the Rookie of the Year award discussion.

The Bengals started the season slow, going 5-4 before their bye week. They ended the season 10-7 and won the AFC South division title for the first time since 2015. Head Coach Zac Taylor took a team that was 2-14 in his first year, and turned them into a Super Bowl team and had given the city of Cincinnati plenty of reasons to chant "Who Dey" all across the country. Key players for the Bengals are going to be Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase and Trey Hendrickson. If the Bengals offense can make sure Ja'Marr Chase is open and get him involved in the play calling, they can easily win this game. The challenge will be stopping Stafford, Odell Beckham and Cooper Kupp.

In my opinion, this will be the 2nd year in a row where a team gets to celebrate a Super Bowl win in front of their home crowd. I think Matthew Stafford had been unloading years of frustration on the league all year long and this is his moment. This is the moment that takes Matthew Stafford out of the list of greatest QBs to never win a Super Bowl, and puts him into the list of greatest QBs of all-time.
