EPK

Crafting an electronic press kit for your music?

What you need to know.

The purpose behind an EPK kit is to offer a snapshot that instantly conveys the essence and sound of the artist to promoters and labels. Plus, they are also a place for fans to discover your music! To ensure your press kit hits the mark, consider incorporating these essential elements:

Artist Bio:

Highlight significant milestones such as releases,  performances, recent news, and your unique selling points. It's advisable to have someone impartial draft this to avoid biased content. Maybe even hire someone if you can. Regularly update your bio to reflect your most current work. Remember, you are selling yourself so take your time to get this part right, As many bands don't, here's a chance to stand out in an overcrowded market Make sure you take every opportunity

Pictures and artwork:

Include professional press shots, both high-resolution and low-resolution versions, alongside vertical and horizontal options in a linked folder. Include  single or album artwork, ideally in square 500 by 500 pixel format, and utilize platforms like Dropbox or Drive to streamline access, which are usually preferred

Music, video, or both?

It should go without saying, but one of the most important parts is the music and reliable links to host your music. I would suggest having your own website that hosts your music, music videos, and press kit.

Press:

For established or semi-established artists, include a selection of compelling press quotes from reputable sources. Limit these to 3–4 quotes, arranged in order of the source's reputation and popularity. If you are just starting out and don't have any, ask some friends to post comments on their social media or give your Facebook a review!

Upcoming Shows:

Provide details of any upcoming live performances, which is particularly crucial when submitting your EPK for gig reviews or to potential bookers who may wish to assess your live capabilities.

Links:

Your EPK should be full of links to your music and videos that are preferably hosted yourself; doing so offers a more professional look and simplifies link accessibility, surpassing the conventional listing on social media platforms. Music and video links, DSP links, and press links on your own webpage if possible.

Contact Info:

Offer official contact channels, opting for an email address over personal social media profiles. If applicable, include details of your manager, booker, publicist, or label representative to direct inquiries to the appropriate individual.

Conclusion:

Remember, an electronic press kit is a marketable entity that should evolve alongside your music career. Regularly update your bio, refresh press quotes, and replace outdated press shots with recent ones. Consistency is key to making yourself stay in the thoughts of your fans and stand out among the rest of the artists looking for the same thing you are.
