- As a child in post-war Bosnia, you grow up with phrases like "Tesla invented electricity, and it shows how Serbs are a smart people" and "The USA wants to take over Kosovo, among other things, because the secret Tesla weapon is there." Talk about human stupidity being spiced up with irrational pride about smartness and innovation.
- For many people in what is called Western Balkans, which includes, among others, Bosnia, Croatia, and Serbia, discussions about Tesla are less about science and more about nationalist identity politics. It is partly because Tesla was born in a Serbian-Orthodox family in present-day Croatia during the Austro-Hungarian Empire period. Many miss that Tesla also developed both Yugoslav and American identification over time, but the point is that more people should discuss about science and innovative achievements.
- Unfortunately, even more, identity politics. Since Tesla is now on Croatian euro coins in connection with Croatia joining the Eurozone, it has made many people in Serbia angry and frustrated. The fact is also that Croatia has a history of many media and others in the 1990s and 2000s writing negatively about Tesla, partly because he was not seen as a "real" Croat. Tesla is also becoming part of European financial and civic identity politics.
- Products were produced during socialist Yugoslavia, such as TV sets, with credit and praise to Tesla. But of course, it is nothing to compare with Elon Musk's Tesla and what the company and the brand have achieved globally. Tesla himself succeeded in the USA and probably would not have succeeded with his ideas in the Balkans for various reasons.
- We will see what happens with the concept of Tesla in the future. There may be entirely new products and things related to development, such as Web 3 and decentralization. Today, there is, among other things, Teslacoin. Tesla himself was very visionary and driven by future optimism, and the best way to predict the future is to create it.
