Singapore’s relationship with Ethereum
Singapore wants to be a crypto hub. It seems to have set its sight on Ethereum, making inroads into the ecosystem, establishing ties with the ETH community. Here are some examples:
1. The Singapore government is using the Ethereum blockchain to verify government issued certificates (like vaccination certs) (Source: https://www.verify.gov.sg/)
2. Ethereum blockchain has 5 testnets i.e Goerli, Sepolia, Ropsten, Rinkeby & Kovan. Kovan is named after a metro station in Singapore.
3. A 3-day event called Ethereum Singapore 2023 was held last year, featuring prominent speakers Vitalik, Aya Miyaguchi (Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation), and Ed Felten (Co-founder of Arbitrum). Singapore has always positioned itself as a Garden City, a nod to our determination to include pockets of greenery amidst our concrete-packed city. 4. Ethereum Singapore 2023 must have been a success because we are going to host and organise Ethereum Singapore 2024 from Sept 16-23. 6. AXS - a bill payment platform - has partnered Triple A - a crypto payment platform - to enable Singapore to pay for their bills issued by private and government organisations with Ethereum.
