I have been writing about blockchain and cryptocurrencies since the end of 2019 and Twitter has always been a source of inspiration for me when it comes to finding new topics for interesting articles.

Sadly, this is not the case anymore. Crypto Twitter as we knew it is dead, at least for now, and here is why.

The whole thing around Twitter, X, or whatever you like to call it has become one big shitshow since Elon Musk has taken over. Especially the Twitter algorithm has been messed up since then but in the last few days, it has become extremely messed up. I see all kinds of topics in my Twitter timeline that I am not interested in.

In the past, there was something like Crypto Twitter. Crypto Twitter was made possible through the Twitter algorithm. Users who were there mainly for crypto also received only crypto-related content. The result was that the "for you" tab recommended only crypto tweets. 

Hashtags and the filter algorithm organized and created the Crypto Twitter timeline. That's why Crypto Twitter soon played a significant role in shaping public opinion, influencing market trends, and delivering real-time information about the crypto space.

Nowadays my timeline is filled with brainless and often toxic stuff like this:

"Trump forced 12 year olds to perform lesbian sex acts for him. That seems important." Well, I don't know to whom this may be important but I know that it is not important for me. The only thing that had ever been important to me had been crypto. All I want is Crypto Twitter.

Here is the second example. "Attempted kidnapper caught in action." The video shows someone who gets beaten half to death. I have seen a bunch of different alleged criminals beaten to death on Twitter, glorifying all kinds of brutal acts of self-justice. This video has 19 Million views!

Here is the third and last example, also one that glorifies violence and self-justice. "Group of Men Beat Their Ex-Friend For raping a Female."

My Final Conclusion

Instead of Crypto Twitter, my "for you" tab is full of toxic trash. For now, I will only use the tab that shows the tweets from the accounts that I am following. I hope that the old Crypto Twitter that played such a huge role in shaping the crypto industry will eventually return one day.
