I started playing The Backwoods a few weeks ago because I was looking for a game that was simple yet packed with action. It's become my daily go-to... except on weekends because I often don't have access to Internet.

This makes it hard to climb the global leaderboard significantly, but I'm aiming to crack the Top 5000 one day (starting with my current goal at Top 6k). We'll see if it's possible with just 5 days of play per week. This is my initial goal, and I'll try to document my progress weekly here and in English (which isn't my first language, so bear with me if I make some mistakes ^^).

The Backwoods is a roguelite game on the Solana blockchain where your hero must fend off successive waves of enemies. These enemies each have different characteristics: some charge at you, others attack from a distance, and so on. You must survive 30 waves to finish the game with the maximum possible points. Plus you'll have to face a boss every 10 waves (level 10, 20, and 30).

The point is to be strategic with the coins you receive after every wave. Will you spend them to buy a better weapon or to upgrade your skills ? Or maybe you should stake them to have more money to spend next round ? The game is currently in open Alpha, so you can play for free. The team has announced an airdrop for current players, which might be more substantial depending on your ranking.

My gameplay style isn't particularly unique nor am I a great gamer, more like a casual one with an old computer, nothing fancy. For the first 4-5 waves, I try to gather as many weapons as possible. From wave 5 onwards, I aim to have only ranged weapons, favoring shotguns and gatling guns if I come across them.

As for items, I usually prioritize luck, attack speed, and damage. I know critical hits will almost always max out (+90%) by wave 25 or 26, so I don't focus on them early on. However, if Dodge or Armor items appear frequently in the 7-8 initial waves, I try to optimize in that direction.

I'll try to keep up with a weekly update and share my experience with you. Keeping a public journal is also a way to find discipline and sometimes the motivation to keep playing. I don't see many people talking about this game on Publish0x, so I told myself why not be one of them ? I'll speak more about the different characters, weapons, items and their NFTs in the next few weeks.

Tomorrow 5th july they should announce a surprise (a new character maybe ?)
