The response for the WAX game Twitchy Tides is unlike anything I've ever seen on Twitch. It's the secret ingredient for my livestreaming in 2025.
You can mix it with practically anything as long as you don't need a delay. My biggest draw is The Sims 3 with Twitchy Tides going into the night U.S. time.
And as a stand-alone, Tuesday at 10 pm EST has become my top timeslot thanks to Tides Tuesday. Even on holidays.
I was the last streamer on the New Year's Eve 2024 train, so I decided to see how long it would take until the viewership started to tail off.
To my surprise, the fade never happened. Eventually I had to tap out to sleep. The demand for Tides is insatiable. Look at this.
Keep in mind that the game is so new that it's not even available as a category yet on Twitch. Yet even with the generic Strategy Games listing, Twitchy Tides is a draw.
We're eventually going to reach a tipping point of Twitch streamers looking to grow their audience who discover Twitchy Tides. At that point, I anticipate things will really take off.
Why does this work where so many others don't? Some reasons:
1. Great community. People love Twitchy Tides and they're looking to play at all times. Huge international audience, which is in part why my U.S. late night streams perform so well. You can watch multiple streamers at the same time on the Twitchy Tides website, twitchytides.io.
2. Motivation to play. Over the past few months, Twitchy Tides has held monthly competitions complete with leaderboard points. You can earn points for finishing in the Top 10 of a given game, and the rewards have been well worth it. And as of today there are new daily reward chests to be won, which is a big positive. This is brand new so I'll save it for another column, but the daily competition element was something I enjoyed in Beast Garden before that game died. It's been sorely missing in far too many WAX games.
3. Tides is easy/fun to play. You don't have to use any commands if you don't want to, though that does add to the fun factor. That topic alone warrants an entire column; it's too much to delve into here.
Even for viewers without a WAX wallet, and this is important, they can play for fun and the game will assign them a fish to use for a given game. It's easy to set up a WAX wallet, but not having that barrier of entry is a big positive.
Everyone can play. That makes a big difference.
4. The detail with the artwork and animation is superb. There is considerable care put into the design of the various fish in the game. Collision detection is on-point. Zany things happen sometimes that make for fun Twitch clips.
5. Pop Paragon, the creator of the game, listens to his audience and is remarkably quick to implement new ideas and improvements. There is a tremendous sense of generosity shown toward the community. And with TwitchyTidesTV, there's a place for people to play auto-run games nearly 24/7.
All this and we've only just begun. But if you're a Twitch streamer and you want to grow your audience, this is a perfect time to give it a shot.
