What are DAOs or Decentralized Autonomous Organizations

By D3v3l | CryptoLearning | 2 Oct 2022

Since the concept of a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) has started gaining traction, the concept has become an emotive one. Some see it as a savior for business and the management of resources, while others view it as a Trojan horse for unchecked corruption. The concept is still in its infancy, and its implementation will shape the future of human society beyond anything we can currently imagine.

DAO is an innovative concept in the field of business management and finance. Essentially, it is a form of a non-profit organization that is run by code without any human intervention. This form of organization is different from traditional organizations in that it is run by code rather than people. In addition, these organizations are autonomous, which means they have the power to operate independently of external controls or supervisors.

Autonomous organizations are more effective and efficient than traditional ones. Typically, traditional organizations use hierarchy and chains of command to organize tasks. This makes it easy for leadership to micromanage lower-ranking employees and create inefficient results. On the other hand, autonomous organizations use coded instructions to organize themselves without any human intervention. As a result, they are more efficient and effective than their conventional counterparts.

Since DAO implementations are still in their infancy, there aren't many tangible results yet. However, it has already gained a lot of traction among tech enthusiasts and investors in Silicon Valley. Some see it as a savior for business and the management of resources, while others view it as a Trojan horse for unchecked corruption. The concept is still in its infancy, and its implementation will shape the future of human society beyond anything we can currently imagine.

DAOs differ from traditional organizations in their mode of operation and degree of autonomy. Currently, there are only a handful of DAOs in existence that have managed to implement this mode of operation successfully. These include The DAO that raised $232 million through an April 2016 ICO and The DAV founded by Y Combinator in 2015. Autonomous organizations are more effective and efficient than traditional ones- we can't imagine what they'll be like once they're widespread!
