The experimentation era of defi is officially over.
With the completely shit exit of the child Andre Cronje and his cronies from the defi space come April, I am officially learning my own lesson about trusting personalities in this space. I say it all the time, yet I was drawn in by Cronje for one last rug before he takes a coward's exit stage left along with most of his investors' money.
Andre Cronje was always the Elon Musk of the defi space. He never deserved the praise he got — everything was all about the people around him and timing. Cronje, like Musk, made his name getting in early on an uncultured space, not by being any kind of genius.
That's probably why he left everyone holding the bag with his (actually his friend's) Twitter announcement. (He didn't even have the balls to announce it himself!) Point is he knows he has nothing else to add to the space outside of half-baked ideas that he can't finish on his own. He was a trend chaser who wanted to have fun more than anything and never appreciated the seriousness of other people's investments in him.
Let this be a warning to all non-devs who trust devs to make money in this space — don't. There are plenty of immature losers out there like Cronje who basically use the space as their playground for a while, attract funds to themselves, then leave without a care for anyone else.
What's more, Cronje sucked a lot of people into Fantom, a shit chain that everyone drank the kool-aid on. Because of Cronje's participation, Fantom was described by everyone as a "fast, scalable alternative" blah blah blah Ethereum killer blah blah. As I write this, I wait for hours to remove my funds from that absolute trash project Solidex, along with just about everyone else on the Fantom chain. The transaction is stuck and won't even show up as pending on chain, just like every other "fast, scalable alternative" chain that gets even the slightest amount of pressure. Fantom sucks. It always sucked. And I'm more mad at myself that I didn't listen to my own instincts about Fantom sucking. I knew it sucked. I knew everyone's description of it was just a parrot of another fuckhead's description. I was drawn in by the prospect of yield.
There were red flags everywhere. YFI was the only project of Cronje's that ever worked like it was supposed to. After that, everything was half done and never improved. Cronje moved from project to project without really moving the last past its initial phase. There was always loose talk of some grand plan that would attach Keep3r to YFI to Solidex to Multichain and create the world's greatest DEFI THING or something. Never happened. Keep3r was the real marker. It never made sense, and was never improved to the point that it could be used. Then Cronje made some silly attempt at a text adventure game only because that was the rage at the time. Everybody cheered that and called it the next phase of gamefi. Pure shit vaporware. Then Solidex — the awful site that didn't even get its yield farms right. You'd figure that Cronje could have at least forked his own crappy code enough to make Solidex work on a basic level. Didn't happen. If you've used it, you know that the names of pools change, you can't get them set up correctly, and the numbers aren't even reporting the proper shit all the time. It is a mess. Then Cronje and his butt buddies announce they quit. Should have seen it coming.
I honestly don't know how these guys feel comfortable walking around in public. You can't do that to people's money and just expect to get away with it. They should definitely lay low from any conventions in the next few months. Although I'm sure they'll have a few sycophants who minted free YFI on the first day protecting them.
From now on, I invest only in legitimate projects that work. No more getting reeled in, even for a day, by promises of grand designs and stuff working later on. One day turns into a bunch of days, which turns into weeks, which inevitably turns into the dump you didn't see coming. And in crypto, the dump can more than take out your gains unless you got in on hour 1 of day 1, lol.
I can't wait to see how Andre sycophants respond to this and whether they'll back him. The piece of shit is a sociopath. He gets no credit just because he thought of automating yield before anybody else. If he didn't do it, someone else would have. The guy's not special, and I won't get caught blindsided by chumps like him again. Jack Mallers, I'm looking at you, you arrogant faggity little shit.
