Ethereum is the worst crypto I've ever held

I Can't Exchange My Ethereum-Based Assets, Even Though I Desperately Need (not Want) to

I urgently need fiat cash in my bank account. I thought what I'd do is sell some of my crypto or move it into a crypto-bank that provides a crypto-backed VISA credit card, since my portfolio still worth a few hundred dollars. (It's definitely not the best time to do it, thanks to a recent major crash, but needs must.) Well, we all know what Thought did: Planted a feather and thought a chicken would grow! (Given my experiences with crypto and the problems it has given me rather than solved, that's far too apt a summation for my liking.)

The problem is that in order to move it, I need about 0.005 ETH (~$12 USD). Not a problem, really; I'll exchange some of the other currencies in my portfolio for ETH first. Except I can't do that, because I don't have the minimum amount(s) required for an exchange. To add insult to injury, I need to have some ETH in order to exchange certain currencies to ETH. Likewise, I can't withdraw my staked ONT because I don't have enough ONT or ONG (I'm not sure which; probably both).

What the heck am I going to do and when the heck is the ETH gas fee problem going to be solved?! (I don't even understand why they got to this stage, don't know the underlying cause of the problem. If it's something to do with halving and increased difficulty mining/verifying transactions, then halving is a bloody stupid thing. Surely it's possible to calculate hashes without increasing the difficulty over time? Ravencoin seems to have managed this, as far as I know. I've no knowledge of how cryptography and the ETH blockchain actually work at a technical level, so I don't actually know how feasible/practical that is. Surely better minds than mine have thought of solutions and are, hopefully, implementing them. If not, ETH is pretty much impractical and dead in the water.)

Thinking About it Won't Help
This image (copyright XKCD) sums up my life (at least, the part of it I've spent working) way too accurately.

AS for me, I'm going to end up homeless and dead in the water too, since nothing I've tried has brought me a sustainable income over the last year or more, despite my best efforts. I'm now at the stage where I have to literally pack up and move my possessions (including my computer and car) to safekeeping with a friend before they get repossessed. That means that not only will I have no income, but I'll have no means of finding employment or generating any, with a few hundred dollars worth of crypto locked away and inaccessible. FML!

I know from past experience that it isn't going to help asking for donations in ETH (especially since gas fees are so high), but I'm leaving my ETH address here in case somebody wants to sponsor me a few thousand gwei to help me out:

The content of this blog is exclusively to do with online privacy/security, cryptography and cryptocurrency: Understanding it, investing in it, mining it (in groups/crowds), developing/programming it, the social problems it aims to solve and the various ways to make more of it (or not, as various losses and failures happen). Let's get away from banksters, Capitalists and fiat, to an unbanked anarcho-syndicalist commune. || Banner image: Blogger's own.
