A while ago (maybe a year or more), I created a Proton wallet and joined the FreeOS project's mailing list. I think there was supposed to be an airdrop in the pipeline, supposedly going to happen at some unspecified point in the future when I joined. Perhaps I thought it might be some sort of UBI provider. At any rate, it seemed that nothing further happened. I then promptly forgot about it until I managed to set up Telos and WAX wallets with Anchor and Antelope (the wallet creation service provided by Greymass). By coincidence, I happened to see that Anchor supports Proton and I had an existing wallet, so I imported that into anchor.
Having not received any email from the FreeOS project and having pretty much forgot about it, I received the following email this morning, pretty much out of the blue:
Democracy to Govern AI Policy
Hello Freeos Fam!
OpenAI (the creators of ChatGPT) called for innovators worldwide to apply to their grant program — an exciting opportunity to shape the future of AI governance.
We'd like to share what we included as part of our Grant Proposal for OpenAI 's call to help shape the future of AI governance.
Our team saw a pathway that leveraged what we built with both Freeos and the DAOScape, and included features that we already had in the works for the DAOScape tools—sortition and fractal democracy.
Please take a read, and feel free to share, as it brings more awareness to this issue, and to the call for improved democratic solutions that blockchain has strong potential to bring around the globe, and how solutions that the Freeos team are building can help bring solutions to not only govern monetary policy at a global scale, but AI policy as well.
The link to the Proposal (on Medium) is in the "Resources" links.
Now, maybe I'm being thick (unlikely), but I'm having difficulty deciphering that buzzword-laden marketing doublespeak to find anything on which to form an opinion as to whether that's a good thing or a bad one. I suppose there really is a first time for everything. My brain seems to have taken leave again, without permission. Does anyone have any thoughts on the content of that email and/or the proposal? it as befuddling to you as it is/was to me? Does it communicate anything meaningful to anybody or is it just a lot of word salad masquerading as a notification of intent to do something about AI governance, to the extent that such exists?
BTW, if you would like to send me some TLOS/WAX/XPR to help me get started with NFTs on those blockchains, now that I have finally managed to set up non-custodial wallets with Anchor, please use one or more of the following addresses (preferably Telos):
- Proton (XPR): freeossnark1
- Telos (TLOS): gwsnarkt.gm
- WAX: gwsnark.gm (note the absence of a t)
If you would like to set up a Telos wallet for free (which I recommend, since I'll be gifting my NFTs to those whom drop their wallet addresses and some TLOS), I recommend reading TrocProcLock's post on how to do so. You can also use SimpleSwap to exchange some of your existing crypto (such as ETH or SOL) for WAX or TLOS.
