Pokémon job listing teases NFTs & Metaverse Future

Pokémon job listing teases NFTs & Metaverse Future

Good day everyone,

I hope you are all well and having a great day, welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things crypto. While there has been much news in the recent week pointing towards more dark days in crypto, I am going to look at a more light-hearted story I came across which will hopefully cause some excitement amongst the Crypto and Pokémon community.

Job Listing

In recent trends on Twitter many have been discussing a job posting by the company behind Pokémon. Within the listing the position requires someone who is experienced with a:

"Deep Knowledge and understanding of Web 3, including blockchain technologies and NFT, and / or Metaverse."

This would be the clearest hint yet that Pokémon is looking to enter the Web 3 space and bring everyone's favourite pocket monsters to the blockchain. In what capacity this will be done remains to be seen, and whether Pokémon will build their very own blockchain (which would be pretty cool) or build on top of a pre existing one such as Ethereum is really anybody's guess at this point. As shown in the Tweet below the posting is focused around Web3 technology and someone with a strong knowledge in investors and entrepreneurs in the area of Web 3.

Fans Reaction

The overall reaction amongst the diehard fanbase seems to be a mixed one. While some are onboard and excited by the ideas, others are horrified by it. Pokémon has never officially entered the blockchain in the past although this posting for the position of Corporate Development Principal, President & Corporate Development Office is definitely looking to change that.

One user in particular seemed very against the idea, as shown in the tweet below, he is pleading with Pokémon not the enter the Web 3 space. In a Tweet showing the job posting, user @port_leeks simple says "Oh no, please no" along with a scared and unhappy looking emoji.

Others are more open to the idea, with the user @aDrive_tK posting a question of whether or not people would buy into a Pokémon NFT game which sold 100 of each Pokémon within the PokéDex. Quite an interesting idea, although as a childhood Pokémon fan myself I know 100 of each Pokémon would never be anywhere near enough to satisfy demands. However it is a very interesting thought into how they might go about doing it. While many people complained saying they believe NFTs to be scams, others were not so closed minded. One user in particular, @chocrushed, pointed out a very interesting fact that people already have their own equivalent of NFTs from their old Pokémon games, ones they created 20 plus years ago. Now they turn around and struggle to comprehend how modern NFTs are almost the same as the individual Pokémon they captured, trained, and traded for the previous two decades or so.

It is important to note that while some fans are worried that a crypto or NFT integration could be released down the line as part of the Pokémon gameplay, which would fundamentally alter the series. Many are apprehensive and even scared at the idea, but it is important to note the job listing is asking for NFT, Web 3, and Metaverse expertise as only a part of the listing. There is much more to it, meaning the position is not solely about branching into the world of Web 3 technologies. It is worth remembering this for anybody who fears Pokémon entering the Metaverse and NFT space, as any successful candidate for the role may just need to keep abreast of information in that space, without necessarily forcing the Pokemon brand into it. Therefore, while we can all dream, fear, and speculate, for now there is nothing concrete regarding Pokémon entering the Web 3 space.
