Good day everyone,
I hope you are all having a good day, welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things crypto. In this post I will be looking at the news of Netflix planning to create a new biopic series on the collapse of FTX, focusing on on former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried and former Alameda Research executive Caroline Ellison.
Netflix Planning FTX Series
The popular streaming service Netflix have reportedly commissioned eight episodes for a new series focused on FTX. The series will focus on the rise and fall of the exchange. So far no name has been given for the show, although major names have been linked with the key roles of former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried and former Alameda Research executive Caroline Ellison. Both Evan Peters and Julia Garner are rumoured to be in the running to portray the key characters in the series. Graham Moore, an Oscar-winning screenwriter, is also in talks to write the series.

Everyone involved in the crypto space is aware of the devastation the November 2022 collapse of FTX caused on the market. It was one of the most dramatic events in the crypto space and even in financial history. At one stage the FTX exchange was valued at $32 billion but ended with the misappropriation of over $8 billion in customer deposits. Sam Bankman-Fried was convicted in November 2023 and sent to prison for 25 years while be ordered to repay $11 billion. Caroline Ellison meanwhile was sentenced to 2 years in prison for her role in the collapse and she was given a lenient sentence due to being a star witness for the prosecution against Bankman-Fried.
According to Variety, Emmy-winning American actress Julia Garner is negotiating for the role of Ellison while also being an an executive producer on the show. Garner is well-known for her roles in ‘Ozark’, ‘Inventing Anna’, ‘Dirty John’, ‘Maniacs’, and more.
Evan Peters was negotiating for the role of Bankman-Fried at some point although it is not confirmed whether or not he is still involved. Peters is famous for his roles in ‘American Horror Story’ and ‘Dahmer’.
Graham Moore will take on the roles of writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner on the project. He has previously worked on ‘The Imitation Game’, ‘The Outfit’, and ‘The Holdout.’ He will be joined by Jacqueline Hoyt who will work as an executive producer and co-showrunner. She has previously worked on ‘The Leftovers’, ‘The Good Wife’, and ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.’
It is believed the show will focus on the 'love story' between Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison to create the narrative for the FTX series’ plot. While a Netflix series of the events could be interesting and entertaining, it is important to note that no contracts have been signed as of yet and nothing is certain. However it is believed that filming is due to begin in the summer.

It was also noted by What’s on Netflix that the streaming giant “isn’t the only one cashing in on the story” of the fallen exchange. It is believed that Amazon Prime Video is working on a project of its own. Along with that Apple Studios have partnered with A24 for a film based on Michael Lewis’s book ‘Going Infinite: The Rise and Fall of a New Tycoon’, while Vice Media and The Information have joined hands on a documentary.
Have a great day.
Peace. CryptoGod-1.
