Weekend Predictions & Final Results

So in terms of the predicted scores, I managed to achieve 3/10 correct this week. In terms of match-winner/loser, I managed to predict 4/10 correctly.

Predicted: Man Utd 0-2 Everton

Result: Man Utd 1-1 Everton

Martial - Townsend

There will be many questions laid on Ole's door if he doesn't find a solution, and fast. I was not the only person who noticed how unhappy Ronaldo looked once the final whistle was blown, and I don't think it was because of Townsend's terrible impersonation of the Ronaldo celebration. United are still in a strong position in the table but have drop points on too many occasions to be considered real contenders. They have a great squad but lack the tactical nous of a Klopp or Pep. Marking his 200th appearance in the league was not enough for Ronaldo as his substitute cameo did not produce a winner. Everton has kept their great start going and I think the majority of the Blues will have accepted Rafa at this point. He will help them maintain a real challenge for a top-four finish. Yerry Mina will be kicking himself for not staying onside but he is a centre half after all, while substitute Davies may feel he should have taken the shot on himself.

Predicted: Burnley 2-0 Norwich

Result: Burnley 0-0 Norwich

Quite the underwhelming game, with a boring draw the final score. For Norwich, the positive is getting their first points on the board. Their attacking outlet however remains woeful. Burnley meanwhile will feel like at least one of their four penalty calls should have been awarded. The first, a collision between Tim Krul and Matej Vydra was probably the most likely one that should have been given. Burnely will feel hard done by but they need to start creating and finishing chances, with the same required of Norwich. Both these teams need to improve after the international break as neither has a win and both are languishing in the bottom three currently.

Predicted: Chelsea 3-1 Southampton

Result: Chelsea 3-1 Southampton

Chalobah, Werner, Chilwell - Ward-Prowse

What a game, definitely one of my favourites with quite the explosive end for Chelsea. Southampton and Ward-Prowse can feel hard done by the red card but it was a reckless challenge. Chalobah is looking to be an astute player to have kept, with his second goal of the season now. A great display from Lukaku and an awful one from Werner but the German got the goal. To be fair Lukaku was there to finish if Werner had missed it. Chilwell gave away the penalty but scored the decisive goal after a frantic number of shots hitting the post. What a shot from Chilwell to win the match. Southampton is one of a number of teams still looking for their first win of the season, and with seven games played, they will need to find it sooner rather than later. Currently, they look odds on for a major relegation battle.

Predicted: Leeds 2-1 Watford

Result: Leeds 1-0 Watford

Llorente

Leeds have put the woes of recent weeks behind them and gotten their first win of the season. Prior to this game, they were in the bottom three but this win has given them some breathing room before the international break. Watford will be dismayed that Kabasele had his equaliser ruled out, but it wasn't to be. Leeds were back to their dominant selves in this match and the fans will hope for more of the same. With Bamford still out it's been a tough season so far but there are many positives to take. Watford meanwhile looked lazy and unfit for this level for lots of the match. They have been hit and miss so far but know how to pick up points and should be safe, along with Leeds, at the end of the season.

Predicted: Wolves 0-1 Newcastle

Result: Wolves 2-1 Newcastle

Hwang x2 - Henderick

The Wolves fans may have a new idol on their hands if Hwang keeps this goalscoring up. The wonder striker from North Korea is beginning to leave his mark on the league. Both himself and Jiminez will look to form a formidable partnership as the season progresses, and will cause a handful for oppositions on their day. Things are not looking good for Newcastle, with zero wins from seven games. They have the players but the fans have no belief in the manager. I personally don't think Bruce is the worst, but I can also understand why they want a more stylish name for a club of their stature. Either an upturn in form or a new manager will be required to save Newcastle from the drop, which is a shame for a club of this size. Since their first relegation under Shearer, the club has never been the same, and new owners are required as much as management.

Predicted: Brighton 1-3 Arsenal

Result: Brighton 0-0 Arsenal

The seagulls are flying. This match has shown they can mix it with anyone, although Arsenal are not the team they once were. For the majority of this game, Brighton was on top, with their possession and shot count outnumbering that of Arsenal. The boos were evident in the Emirates Stadium, with captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang getting booed as he was substituted off. His performance was poor, but so was the entire Arsenal team. With the money he is earning, reported around £300k per week, it's understandable why the fans expect more from their captain. Brighton as a team was quicker and got to the second ball first, constantly outplaying Arsenal all over the field. For Arsenal, their woes continue and the break could do them a world of good. The club cannot afford to miss out on European football for another season but will be in danger of becoming a mid-table team if they don't improve.

Predicted: Crystal Palace 2-2 Leicester

Result: Crystal Palace 2-2 Leicester

Olise, Schlupp - Iheanacho, Vardy

Leicester are just not themselves this season. Rodgers has done a wonderful job so far but needs to improve with the Foxes in the wrong half of the table. There is a lot of competition this season to clinch top 4 and Leicester are always there or thereabouts. Can they make the grade this season? Honestly relying on Vardy might be their downfall. He is an excellent player but in his mid 30s now, the younger strikers need to step up. Iheanacho is starting to looking like the wonder kid Man City had, so he might turn up trumps this season and help Leicester push up the table. Viera is continuing his amazing start to life at Palace. Attractive football, talented squad and decent results. The draws will turn into wins, and most importantly they are not loosing heavily. I can see a bright future for Viera in management and Palace are in for an exciting season.

Predicted: Tottenham 2-2 Aston Villa

Result: Tottenham 2-1 Aston Villa

Højbjerg, Targett(OG) - Watkins

Im curious to see how long Nuno will last at Spurs. The summer involved candidate after candidate before he eventually landed the job. Will it be seen as an interim decision with him gone before the end of the season? I think so unfortunately. Kane is killing it in Europe’s third continental competition, but has seemed a shadow of himself domestically. That spark is just not there currently. Villa meanwhile will take confidence that they are matching the big teams, even if the result went against them. A strong team all over and a dark horse in my opinion, they will be in the mix for Europe come the end of the season.

Predicted: West Hame 1-2 Brentford

Result: West Hame 1-2 Brentford

Bowen - Mbeumo, Wissa

Disappointment for West Ham, and potentially that fatigue from European endeavours is beginning to take effect. Moyes has been doing an excellent job and I assume West Ham will managed a strong top half finish, potentially in European contention again. Brentford though deserve all the credit, grabbing themselves a late winner with their never say die attitude. Underdogs in every game they have more than shown they can play at the top level. Definitely one of the ones to watch as they could really go far in sneaking a top 7 finish.

Predicted: Liverpool 3-1 Man City

Result: Liverpool 2-2 Man City

Mané, Salah - Foden, De Bruyne

Well this game certainly lived up to its billing, and a host of world class goals throughout. Goal of the season contender from Salah, in a game of contrasting halves. City dominated for the first and Liverpool looked lost. A great turnaround in the second half, and a brilliant finish by Mané to open the scoring. City answered with a supreme finish by Foden, but Salah was the man to shine. City got their second equaliser but the twisting and turning from Salah for his goal was reminiscent of his goal against Tottenham in his first season, a game which also finished 2-2. Great game and a deserved point each. Liverpool will be disappointed not to have held on but overall City deserved a share of the spoils.

Table After Match Day 7

A look at the top half of the table, with things looking pretty for both Chelsea, Liverpool, City and Brentford before the international break.

Top half

The bottom half tells another tale as Norwich, Newcastle, Burnley and Southampton have a lot of work ahead.
