The Testament of Sherlock Holmes

The sixth game in the series, The Testament of Sherlock Holmes, was released for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in September 2012. The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is set in the London of 1895, with Holmes presented as the main suspect in a case in which he is unable to prove his innocence. It was developed primarily for consoles, and features a new graphic engine and gameplay mechanics.

Set in 1898, this tale begins with Sherlock being accused in a newspaper article of being involved in the recent theft of priceless jewels. While there is not evidence to back up the accusation, Inspector Baynes decides to visit 221b Baker Street and informs both Sherlock and Watson that he will investigate into the matter further as a recent case involved a jewelled necklace was in fact a fake necklace that Holmes found. Once the Inspector and police have left, Holmes immediately informs Watson of his immediate appointment with the Bishop of Knightsbridge. The pair set off, and upon arrival they discover the Bishop has been attacked and murdered, having been tied up, burnt, and mutilated. After some investigation, Holmes concludes that the attackers were of low class, workers, and had been hired to administer a special poison to the Bishop which caused a madness in the man of the cloth.

They proceed to the prison where they wish to interview Hans Schielman, a master in chemicals and specifically poisons. After some interactions and puzzles, a fire breaks out within the cellblocks and Schielman escapes. Holmes implies that he in fact helped Schielman to escape in return for information about the poisoning case. Watson, astonished by the actions of Holmes, agrees to progress with his comrade and they head to Whitechapel.

In the morning in Whitechapel a chance encounter happens with Prince Woodville, who is an heir to the throne. The pair investigate a nearby cemetery and discover directions to a house. Within the house Sherlock and Watson find one of the murderers, already deceased along with also finding opium paraphernalia. After a quick and haphazard autopsy Sherlock deduces that the opium had been laced with the same poison that had been used on the Bishop. They go to the nearby opium den and discover the other men involved in the murder, though they are apprehended by Scotland Yard before Sherlock can do something Watson thought him incapable of; kill.

Holmes decides he wants to question the Bishops nephew, Henry. With the help of their trusty dog Toby, the pair track Henry to the Wharf where they find him hiding out at a smelting plant. Henry, frightened and worried, holds Sherlock at gunpoint, and Toby ends up knocking the man into the molten metal below, killing him. This leaves the trail dead and Sherlock and Watson decide to return to the original theft of the necklace as a point of reference. Sherlock breaks into the office of the writer Oliver Farley who wrote the article claiming Sherlock was involved in the theft. The journalist is seemingly intent of showing Sherlock to be a fraud, and Holmes discovers that Farley has recently been visited by local judge Sir Coutes Beckett.

They head to the judges home, where Holmes leaves a mysterious package on the judges desk after the pair had broken in. They find a collection of evidence against Sherlock which leads Watson to be suspicious of his friend. As they are leaving, Watson spots Beckett and insists on approaching him to discuss matters. Holmes will not allow such matters and says he is leaving, trying to get Watson to go with him. As Watson approaches the house it suddenly explodes and causes Watson to be knocked out.

Holmes has disappeared, and Watson is horrified as his friend is now wanted for questioning regarding the explosion. Watson is dismayed and taken to Scotland Yard while Baker Street is searched top to bottom. Once Watson is released, he returns to Baker Street and through some investigation of his own, discovers Holmes is hiding at a rented room in Whitechapel. They head to the city together to continue the investigation, arriving at a sawmill where they encounter three Russian anarchists, where one is blind, one is deaf, and one is mute. While Sherlock finds the body of a deceased magician Watson questions the men, who flee once they discover it is Sherlock Holmes as he cannot be trusted. The police and Baynes arrive, and when Baynes goes after Sherlock alone, he is thrown from the upstairs window with Holmes branded as the murderer.

Back at Baker Street Holmes fakes his own death to throw the police off his scent, going back into hiding. Watson decides to continue the case, and it leads him into the sewers where he discovers a hooded Holmes being beaten by two men. With Holmes free, they head back to 221b Baker Street and Holmes apologises for his behaviour and reveals everything he knows.

"Professor Moriarty has been busy plotting a scheme to create mass panic by poisoning the poor citizens of London. The aim is to destabilise the government and in doing so create a power vacuum. Moriarty would take advantage of this and ensure that Queen Victoria is removed from her role and he would fill it with a puppet ruler loyal only to him, Prince Woodville. Knowing Holmes was the only one that could stop his plan, Moriarty recruited Inspector Baynes to help discredit him."

The pair head to Moriarty's hideout, an old carnival near a disused and dilapidated factory, where they find the three Russians once again. The anarchists had created a series of bombs which will detonate around London through a radio transmitter. They need to figure out how to disconnect the bombs and along the way they encounter Prince Woodville, who Holmes manages to incapacitate. From here the duo split up, with Watson figuring out how to disarm the bombs and Sherlock finding a way to contact Scotland Yard and Inspector Lestrade. The succeed, and after disconnecting the bombs from the radio transmitter, Holmes and Watson use another bomb to destroy the factory. We learn that Moriarty is merely a puppet, being controlled by Schielman. Back inside Moriarty's hideout, he pulls a gun on Sherlock and Watson but they are saved when Schielman, under the influence of his own poison, attacks Moriarty and savagely bites at his throat.

Moriarty shoots him, but is too late to save his own life. With his dying breath, Moriarty asks Holmes to take care of his daughter, Katelyn Moriarty, as he believes Sherlock is the only one worthy to teach her. Holmes decides to takes the child and treats her as if she was his own daughter, giving her an education and a new life. In turn, he finally has a family of his own.

An example of the game is shown in the image below of Sherlock and Watson sneaking as part of their investigation.
