@Crypto-Strategist wrote about Genius Act “July 18 deadline for the U.S. Treasury and other regulators to publish the GENIUS Act's implementing regulations”. And its effect on stablecoins, in particular USDT falling outside regulated.

The Serial Commentor
While the post was primarily about the Genius Act. This statement:
”Tether dominates the market with roughly $189 billion in USDT, and it is not a U.S. issuer. It already lost Europe when MiCA's perimeter closed.”
Got me thinking.

LocalCoinSwap

LocalCoinSwap is a Peer2Peer non-custodial cryptocurrency marketplace. One can buy and sell BTC ETH LTC USDC DAI and more cryptos worldwide using 300+ payment methods.
So the answer to the question.
Is the buying and selling of USDT still available to European residents on LocalCoinSwap?
Drum roll please. And the winner is…
European residents can still buy and sell USDT using payment options including:
- Revolut
- Wise
- cash in person
- cash by mail
- Payoneer
- bank transfer
- gift cards
Note: Could not find any vendor offering Cash Deposits (ATM) in Europe. This may or may not be due to MICA. It may be due to the wider trend of banks to limit cash deposits. Down Under there is only 1 major bank that still allows (cardless) Cash Deposits. And they have imposed their own limit of $2,000 per day.
So I suppose LocalCoinSwap is also a winner.
Last Man Standing
Cash would have to be the last payment option left standing.
We did not use “cash in person” in 2025 and 2026 but did use “cash in the mail”. It became our preferred payment option. Tried bank transfer and cash deposit but both caused questions to be asked.
“cash in the mail”
- vendor sends cash in a disguised package, labelled cassette or such
- via express post (tracking)
- to a Post Office Locker Box, available to owners of a P O Box
- when arrives both parties are notified
- code sent to recipient
- Locker Box opened, both parties notified
- recipient videos opening and the untampered package
- recipient videos the opening of package and counting of the cash
- releases USDT from escrow
Everyone likes getting parcels in the mail.
