Good day everyone,
I hope you are all well and having a great day, welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things gaming and literature. Following on from a post I did tcalled "Elementary my dear Watson" where I brought up the topic of the latest game which will be released in the Sherlock Holmes series by Frogwares, I have since decided to do a post on each of the individual games to give readers a better idea of one of my favourite gaming series ever created. Today I will be looking at the second game in the series, called Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Silver Earring.
The first post in the game series was Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Mummy
The Case of the Silver Earring
The second game in the series, Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Silver Earring, was released in October 2004, and introduced the third-person perspective for players. In it, Holmes and Watson investigate the murder of a construction tycoon, Sir Melvyn Bromsby; with his daughter, Lavinia, among the suspects.
Based in 1987, Sherlock Holmes start this adventure by getting a letter from his brother Mycroft requesting for both him and Dr. Watson to investigate a singer performing at a birthday party held by baron Sir Melvyn Bromsby for his daughter Lavinia. At the party, Melvyn Bromsby is about to make an important announcement concerning his future business affairs when the baron is shot dead by an unknown assassin. It is up to Sherlock, along with the help of Watson and Scotland Yard's Inspector Lestrade, to identify the suspects. There are dozens of witnesses and multiple places to visit throughout Victorian London as part of this investigation, meaning Sherlock will need all his skills and might to solve this one. Sherlocks decides two people are to be his main suspects, with these being Lavinia, who has a strained relationship with her father, while the other is Grimble, Bromsby's partner who was apparently caught embezzling. All the evidence is pointing to Lavinia as the main culprit but Holmes suspects there is more at play.
There ends up being five more murders, making six in total, with the first of these new corpses being Roy Hunter, a bartender at the party. The second is Horace Fowlett, Bromsby's lawyer. The third is an unknown man, later identified as Bromsby's troubled nephew, Wyatt Collins. Sherlock, using his astounding intellect, connects the disappearances of Veronica Davenport and Jeffries, actors who co-owned a theatre troupe Melvyn Bromsby bought, to the case also. From here Holmes decides that the real culprits must be Lt. Herrington, his manservant Spencer, and Collins.
Lt. Herrington is a solider who is in a relationship with Lavinia. Spencer, his manservant, turns out to be Jeffries, who had killed Veronica due to jealousy and convinced Lt. Herrington to help him make the corpse disappear. They worked with Wyatt Collins, Bromsby's nephew, to steal the mans fortune. At the birthday party Jeffries had disguised himself as Lt. Herrington, which allowed the real Lt. Herrington to shoot Bromsby.
The bartender, Hunter, was killed in cold blood because he recognised that the Lt. Herrington at the party was a fake. The lawyer Fowlett was murdered by Collins as he tried to steal his uncles will, but could not find it. Collins was then killed off by the others as once Lt. Herrington became engaged to Lavinia he was no longer required. Finally we discover that Grimble had embezzled to help families of workers Bromsby had wronged, which Bromsby approved of, and clearing the mans name in the process.
To ensure justice is served, Holmes tricks Lt. Herrington into confessing to the crime by falsely claiming Scotland Yard will find evidence of the murders and the men are arrested. Holmes and Watson then prepare to investigate the singer as Mycroft requested, having solved the case of the Silver Earring.
An example of the gameplay is shown in the image below of Sherlock and Lavini.

System Requirements
To run this game on your PC it will require a minimum of the following as per Steam:

As a little piece of trivia, the first novel of the detective, A Study in Scarlet (1887), was written by a twenty-seven-year-old Doyle in just three weeks and ended up being a flop. Doyle was inspired by a real-life lecturer of his at the University of Edinburgh, Dr Joseph Bell, who could diagnose patients simply by looking at them when they walked into his surgery.
Have a great day,
Peace. CryptoGod-1.
