Catching a Falling Knife

Several people have probably already noticed what happened to the Bro Community and, consequently, to the main tokens tied to this project — BRO and LGN.

The causes behind this collapse are unclear — or at least I haven’t been able to find any kind of official explanation — but they seem to stem from a difficult situation involving the founder of the community. At least, that’s what can be inferred from the posts written by those who have discussed the topic and from the official Bro community account, which has recently published a series of posts that are not easy to interpret.

What’s certain, however, is that the economic impact has been devastating: one of the most solid tokens on Hive-Engine — BRO — has collapsed, losing almost all its value in just a couple of days.

From a value that hovered around 10 HIVE, BRO is now trading for less than 1 HIVE... and LGN is doing even worse.

The value of this second token is near zero, plummeting from the 0.40 HIVE it used to be worth.

A heavy blow

For those who had invested in these projects, this is a terrible situation — thousands upon thousands of dollars have evaporated, likely lost forever.

It clearly shows the fragility of a system in which just a few individuals — sometimes even a single person — can, from one day to the next, bring an entire project to an end, destroying the investments of those who had entrusted it with their money and savings.

Unfortunately, Hive-Engine isn’t new to such situations: there’s no shortage of projects and tokens that have died because their founder decided to leave. But this case was particularly absurd — not only because there were no clear warning signs (aside from a shift in the project’s spirit, which by itself certainly didn’t suggest such an ending), but also and above all because it was the founder himself who caused it all.

And, apparently, not even for personal gain.

Which makes it all the more unpredictable.

A falling knife

In all this, I was lucky — very lucky.

Although BRO was among the tokens I had talked about, just a few days before the crash I had published another post listing the Hive-Engine tokens still in my possession… and BRO was no longer among them — nor was LGN. I had sold them both a few months earlier because the dividends they generated were not enough to justify holding them, at least for me.

That allowed me to completely avoid this crisis — and in the meantime, I also got rid of GIFU, since it was tied to the same community, and at that point, I didn’t want to take any more risks.

Not only that: during the initial chaos, when BRO’s price dropped below 1 HIVE, I decided to buy a good amount of it, betting on a potential rebound.

It was a risky move, and soon after I started regretting it, as the account brofund began publishing frantic (and confusing) posts that made me realize any hope of recovery was probably close to zero...

... and yet luck was on my side, because BRO’s value surged sharply for a few hours, allowing me to sell the BRO I had just bought and even make a nice profit.

So, unintentionally, I caught a falling knife... and managed not to cut myself!

Afferrare un Coltello che Cade

In diversi avranno ormai notato la vicenda che ha colpito la Community Bro e, di conseguenza, i principali token legati a questo progetto, BRO e LGN.

Le cause che hanno determinato questo collasso non sono chiare - o almeno io non sono riuscito a trovare una sorta di spiegazione ufficiale - ma sembrano essere dipese da una situazione di difficoltà del founder della community - o almeno questo è ciò che sembra potersi desumere dai post pubblicati da coloro che hanno scritto sull'argomento e dall'account ufficiale della community Bro che, negli ultimi giorni, ha scritto molti post di non facile interpretazione.

Quel che è certo, però, è che l'effetto a livello economico è stato dirompente, con uno dei token più solidi di Hive-Engine - BRO - che è collassato, perdendo quasi tutto il suo valore nel giro di un paio di giorni.

Da un valore che si attestava sui 10 HIVE, BRO oggi si scambia a meno di 1 HIVE... e LGN non è messo meglio, anzi.

Il valore di questo secondo token è prossimo allo zero, in caduta libera dagli 0.40 HIVE che valeva.

Un colpo durissimo

Per chi aveva investito in questi progetti si tratta di una situazione terribile, con migliaia e migliaia di dollari di investimenti che sono evaporati, probabilmente persi per sempre.

Ciò dimostra sicuramente la fragilità di un sistema in cui pochi individui - spesso addirittura uno solo - possono da un giorno all'altro porre fine ad un intero progetto, distruggendo con esso l'intero l'investimento delle persone che lì avevano portato i propri soldi e risparmi.

Hive-Engine purtroppo non è nuova a situazioni del genere: non si contano i progetti ed i token che sono morti perchè il founder ha deciso di andarsene, ma questo caso è stato particolarmente assurdo, non solo perchè non c'erano state particolari avvisaglie - fatto salvo un cambio di rotta nella gestione del progetto, che però di per sè certo non poteva far pensare ad una conclusione di questo tipo - ma anche e soprattutto perchè in qualche modo è stato lo stesso founder a causare tutto ciò.

E, apparentemente, non per ottenere un guadagno personale.

Il che rende il tutto ancora più imprevedibile.

Un coltello che cade

In tutto ciò io sono stato fortunato, molto fortunato.

Sebbene BRO fosse fra i token di cui vi avevo parlato, giusto qualche giorno prima che questa tracollo avvenisse avevo pubblicato un altro post in cui elencavo i token su Hive-Engine ancora in mio possesso... e BRO, per mia fortuna, non era più fra quelli, così come LGN: entrambi infatti li avevo venduti qualche mese fa, perchè i dividendi che ottenevano non erano abbastanza da giustificare la detenzione di quei token, almeno per me.

Questo mi ha consentito di evitare completamente questa crisi - e nel mentre mi sono anche liberato di GIFU, dato che comunque era sempre legato a questa community e, a questo punto, non volevo più correre rischi.

Non solo: nella confusione iniziale, quando il prezzo di BRO è crollato al di sotto di 1 HIVE, ho deciso di acquistarne una buona quantità, scommettendo sulla sua ripresa.

Si è trattata di una mossa azzardata e di cui, dopo poco, mi stavo già pentendo, perchè è iniziata la pubblicazione spasmodica (e sconclusionata) di post da parte dell'account brofund, che mi ha fatto capire che le speranze di ripresa erano, probabilmente, pari a zero...

... eppure la fortuna mi ha sorriso, perchè BRO ha visto il proprio valore, per qualche ora, risalire molto alto, consentendomi così di liberarmi di quei BRO che poco prima avevo acquistato e realizzare, addirittura, un bel profitto.

Involontariamente ho quindi afferrato un coltello che cade... e sono riuscito a non tagliarmi!
