For the first time in history there is a country with more cryptocurrency than gold.

The cryptocurrency in question is Bitcoin, and the country in question is Bulgaria.

According to the latest news, Bulgaria has "in the safe" the beauty of 200 thousand Bitcoins for a value, at the time of writing, of 2.1 billion dollars.

The figure is even more impressive if we consider that the country's gold reserves amount to around 40 tons with a total value of 1.8 billion dollars.

But why did Bulgaria take this decision?

The answer is simpler and it was almost a coincidence, during an operation against a criminal gang in 2017, the so-called "Pratka operation", the country seized from a well-known criminal gang all the "loot" that the band had spent in Bitcoin with the aim of hiding its own tracks and guaranteeing anonymity.

The band's plans, however, have obviously not been successful and the sequestration which (in 2017) amounted to about half a billion dollars, today stands at 2.1 billion.

So Bulgaria is the first country in the history of the world to possess more cryptocurrency than gold, thus establishing a record, excellent work Bulgaria.
