The news may seem small, in fact, reading between the lines, we immediately understand how relevant what we are talking about is; for the first time in its history, in fact, ripple is specifically mentioned in an official document of the US government. More precisely, it was the CFPB (acronym of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) that cited ripple as part of a document that analyzes the future prospects of the remittance market. The US agency that is responsible for consumer protection in the financial sector has indeed proposed to reduce bureaucracy for institutions that carry out a limited number of transfers during the fiscal year; the reason for this proposal is basically ripple. The CFPB, in fact, recalls that the remittance market has undergone substantial changes with regard to the application of the rules envisaged due to the incorporation of new technologies by cross-border payment providers; the document then goes on to mention Ripple directly, defining the platform as one of the factors disturbing the sector together with the SWIFT Global Payment Innovation (SWIFT GPI) and non-banking financial companies. The CFPB, in any case, believes that companies operating with these new technologies are unlikely to replace the banking system any time soon, but the document allows us to understand how the US institutions have the pulse of the situation and are perfectly aware of the fact that it is essentially inevitable that, from a long-term perspective, the fintech companies will eventually replace the banks; this is certainly true in the remittance market, but it is true, more generally, almost for every financial sector. The news, to conclude, is certainly nothing epochal, but it remains an important step both for Ripple and for the entire cryptocurrency industry.
