Staking Goes Mainstream: ETH And SOL ETFs Break New Ground

By Myxoplixx | CryptoCurious | 30 Jun 2025

For the first time in history, Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL) staking ETFs are about to launch in the United States, marking a major milestone for both the crypto world and traditional finance. These new ETFs don’t just track the price of ETH and SOL like previous crypto funds; they also participate in network staking, meaning investors can now earn staking rewards, essentially a kind of interest, just by holding the ETF. This is a big deal because, until now, U.S. investors could only get staking yields by holding crypto directly and managing their own wallets, which comes with technical and security challenges.

The breakthrough happened after the SEC, the main U.S. financial regulator, stopped raising objections to the latest ETF proposals from REX Shares and Osprey Funds. These companies found creative ways to structure their funds, addressing the SEC’s previous concerns about how staking works and how these funds should be regulated. Their solutions included using special corporate structures and secure staking operations, which finally satisfied regulators. The SEC’s lack of further comments is seen as a green light, clearing the way for these ETFs to hit the market soon.

This move is driven by strong demand from investors who want both the price gains and the extra yield that staking provides, but in a safe, regulated package. Other countries like Canada have already launched similar products, showing that there’s a global appetite for these kinds of investments. The arrival of ETH and SOL staking ETFs in the U.S. could bring in a wave of new money from institutional investors, who prefer the convenience and security of ETFs over managing crypto themselves.

The launch of these staking ETFs is a game-changer. It opens up new opportunities for everyday and institutional investors to earn more from their crypto holdings without the technical headaches. It also sets the stage for more innovative crypto investment products in the future, pushing both the crypto industry and financial regulators to adapt to a rapidly changing landscape.
