Monero Just Hit a 7-Month High and Here's Why Everyone's Talking About It

So Monero (XMR) just popped off and hit its highest price since January. Like, seriously jumped up. We're talking almost $530 per coin at peak. Right now it's sitting around $525, which means if you were holding this thing, you saw about a 43% gain in just one month. That's pretty wild for any crypto, honestly.

The coin just became the 13th largest cryptocurrency by market cap, knocking down some big names like Chainlink and Cardano in the rankings. But what actually made this happen?

What Caused the Spike?

The main thing everyone's pointing to is this network upgrade that happened on THORChain. They added something called "native XMR swaps" which basically means you can now trade Monero more easily on that network. Sounds boring but it matters because it opens up another door for people to buy and sell this privacy coin without using normal exchanges.

And speaking of exchanges - here's the real interesting part. Monero isn't even on most of the big platforms. Binance literally kicked it off back in early 2024. Coinbase doesn't have it either. The only major places you can really get it are Kraken, KuCoin, and MEXC. So this 43% jump happened without the coin even being available on the biggest exchanges. That's actually kind of mind-blowing.

One crypto guy on Twitter was basically saying "I don't even know how this thing keeps going up without being on all the major platforms." Pretty fair question.

The Technical Side

Okay, so there's a chart thing that matters here. There's this tool called RSI that measures if something's been going up too fast too quickly. It goes from 0 to 100, and when it goes above 70, that usually means people have gotten a little too excited and a pullback might be coming. Right now XMR's RSI is at around 77, which means yeah, people are really excited and maybe too much.

But here's the thing - there's actually a sign that might mean more gains coming. People have been pulling their coins OFF the exchanges and keeping them in personal wallets. That's a good sign because it means less coins are sitting around ready to be sold. When that happens, prices usually want to go higher.

What Happens Next?

That RSI number I mentioned basically says "slow down, take a breather." Most of the time when something shoots up this fast, it needs to pull back a bit before going higher again. So don't be shocked if you see XMR drop to like $450 or $480 in the next few days. That wouldn't be a disaster - it would actually be pretty normal.

But the real story here is that Monero is a privacy coin that people actually care about. It's been called "the real privacy token" by people in the space because it actually works as a private digital money, unlike a lot of other crypto projects that just talk about it.

The big unlock though? If this coin ever gets back on Binance or makes it onto Coinbase, that could be huge. Imagine what happens to the price if millions of new people can suddenly buy it easily.
