It's no big secret that Bitcoin and many other currencies have been in the web for a long time. I have dabbled in these over the last few years, but more like a tourist per se. By that I mean a Sotoshi here and one there more for the fun of it rather than to actually do something with them. As you can imagine it never amounted to much other than the curiosity of the whole craze surrounding crypto. What changed? Well, in short I fell victim to one of the many cloud mining scams with the little Bitcoin that I had and basically lost it all. Just one of many hoping for a big pay day that never came. Please don't read much into that - as a crypto tourist I didn't know better. In short I put the whole idea into the background with the occasional article read in the crypto space.
Over the last few months thinking about how and where I wanted to invest some of my cash now that I actually have some that isn't leaving my pocket every month to pay off student loans. Sure I could have gone the safe and boring route and just went for stocks and/or ETFs which I do have some of both personally and through the 401 from work. Both are nice, but as you know they are slow growth, boring, and I don't have a whole lot of control over those assets. So I'm sitting there on a day off from work and find myself once again looking at the whole crypto thing again seeing that I have more control over my fate - for good or worse. More to the point, it just seemed more interesting than waiting twenty years to have any assets worth value to even use.
With this in mind the whole point of this blog is to document my new adventure into the wild west of cryptocurrency and where it takes me during this year long project. This is a growing space in and out of the financial markets with some coins and tokens that hold real world implications that really can't be ignored. To start off this project I gave myself $40 to play with to begin a very small portfolio. All of which are coins that I found interesting due to the goals and what they offer the outside market either with smart contracts, gaming, or financial institutions. With the loan exception being BAT simply since its a side benefit from using Brave's browser which I wanted to use for personal reasons being discontented with the security features of the ones I had. During this first week of the project I have seen some gains in minor profits and hope that translates into something more. I am looking forward to seeing how this project plays out as I continue to lean more about who it all works and with other assets to be added to in the weeks and months ahead.
