Coreum (CORE) is an upcoming third generation, first layer blockchain that is also open source.  It is designed to expand the functions of the Sologenic (SOLO) DEX.  The team aims to solve a lot of DeFi problems including tokenization, speed, cross chain interoperability, and scalability all in one.

The Sologenic vision is a trading DEX with tens of thousands of different cryptocurrencies and tokenized traditional assets such as stocks, ETFs, and commodities.

A Quick History

I learned the majority of this deeper info from watching this interview of Reza Bashash, the tech lead of Sologenic.

SOLO lives on the XRP ledger (XRPL).  As development went forward, they found they needed more features beyond the XRP ledger, including smart contracts and interoperability of chains.

The team decided to build the brand new Coreum blockchain exclusively to expand into these functions.  As for the coin, there will be no ICO or token sales.  CORE will only be distributed to SOLO holders with snapshots occurring throughout 2022.  You can find those details here.

Coreum Key Features

• Being built on the Tendermint core for blockchain interoperability, consensus, and its app framework.
• Uses WebAssembly for its smart contracts, improving speed and safety while allowing for many programming languages.
• There will only be 500 million CORE tokens in existence.
• Nine validators rotate every four hours.
• Incentives for DApp developers to build on their network.
• Eventual CORE staking, which is key to consensus.
• They encourage governance by the holders of CORE tokens.
• The higher the traffic, the lower the transaction fees will be.
• Mainnet launch is estimated at Auguest 2022.

I really like the idea of smart contracts being built with WebAssembly (WASM), which is a new web technology that is fast, safe, and open.  WASM allows DApp developers to write their smart contracts in many different programming languages.  They won't need to learn a new language that is specific to a chain.

My Final Thoughts on this New Blockchain

Sologenic has huge goals for their DEX, but also gigantic financial backers.  Research from other Youtube channels such as Zen God have shown that big money is getting behind Coreum development.

The Sologenic team seems to have a big update every couple of days as my research journey goes on.  It is pretty impressive.  But, there is no way to know what roadblocks, hacks, and technology setbacks will occur throughout 2022.

I really like the tech stack of Tendermint, XRPL, and WebAssembly.  This could be a nexus where a lot of money and incoming developers build an amazing platform rapidly, but time will tell.
