If someone decides to buy BTC for speculative reasons then he must be ready for a rough ride. In 2018, Bitcoin lost more than 72% for a year, and in 2013 it gained more than 5527%. These are extreme examples of when BTC gained and lost the most. In other years, the price fluctuations were (slightly less) wild.

On the chart I marked the years when there was a halving of Bitcoin. Each time, the price rose in those years. Bitcoin's next havling is in 2024, just a little over 100 days from now, will this pattern be repeated this time, or will it change for the first time?

These are the prices from January 1 to December 31, but there are even greater fluctuations from ATH, but that's a topic for another article.

Bitcoin's average annual ROI for all years is 680%, and the median return of BTC investments is 123%. Remember, however, that such numbers have been carved out by the crazy growth since Bitcoin cost cents.

Statistics show that, at least so far, buying Bitcoin on January 1 has had a good chance of above-average returns. But remember, this doesn't have to happen again at all, and things can change in the cryptocurrency market in the blink of an eye.
