The Ledger Nano X

Review of the Ledger Nano X

The Ledger Nano X currently costs £109 but is it worth it? I've had it for a few months now, let me tell you what I think.

The Unboxing

What you get

The unboxing experience is a warm welcome as the packaging reminds me of opening an iPhone, very satisfying! Once you've peeled off the plastic and opened everything up here's what you get:

  • A Ledger Nano X
  • A Braided USB C cable
  • A Keychain Strap
  • 3 Recovery Sheets
  • Some Stickers
  • The Usual Paperwork

The Device

The Ledger Nano X

The device itself is really sleek. The brushed aluminium, crisp OLED screen and tactile clicky buttons really make the device feel high quality and well built. It feels like a posh USB stick, and that's probably a good thing as no one would suspect it's actually holding lots of crypto ;). Despite having only 2 buttons, It is surprisingly easy to use and the UI is really well thought out.

Ledger Live

Ledger Live

While you can use the Ledger with other software, I have personally been using the first party "Ledger Live" to view my coins. It does seem to have chosen form over function as it is has a really clean and simple UI. However it does seem to have a few issues with updating prices regularly.

It has built in exchange functionality with Coinify, however I found the fees to be very high and it seemed easier and cheaper to just buy my coins on Coinbase and then send them to the Ledger.

It also has built in Compound lending but only seems to support the stable coins so I haven't had any use for it personally. It also has some token swapping, but I am more into hodling what I've got than swapping but from a glance, it does seem like it could do with supporting more coins to swap.

Finally, and arguably the most important thing. Coin support. The ledger seems to support a large array of coins (list here), and supports everything I hold. The process of adding a coin to the ledger and sending them is quick and painless.

Summary

It is a little pricey, But paying that little bit extra does come with a really nice user experience and feel. And with support for almost every coin you could want, It does everything that could be asked of it.

If you decide to buy always buy from the official store to ensure the wallet has not been tampered with.
