Amazon launches Trainium 2 to lead in artificial intelligence
Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon's cloud division, presented its new artificial intelligence chip: the Trainium 2. This launch seeks to reduce dependence on Nvidia, its main chip supplier, and strengthen Amazon's position in the market of AI.
The demand for artificial intelligence chips has grown enormously in recent years. This has led Nvidia to generate record profits, becoming the second most valuable company in the world. However, other tech giants, such as Microsoft and Google, are also developing their own AI chips to compete in this market.
Taiwan, key in the development of the chip
Morgan Stanley identified seven Taiwanese companies that will be the big winners following the deployment of the new Trainium 2 chip. These companies will benefit as strategic AWS suppliers:
Wiwynn and Hon Hai, computer assemblers.
Gold Circuit Electronics, circuit board manufacturer.
Accton, specialist in network equipment.
King Slide, server parts supplier.
Asia Vital Components, expert in cooling systems.
Delta Electronics, leader in power supplies.
Benefits of Trainium 2 over Nvidia
Amazon claims that servers with the Trainium 2 chip will offer up to 40% more cost-effective performance compared to servers using Nvidia H200 GPUs, the most advanced to date.
This new chip not only improves efficiency, but also marks a key step for AWS to diversify its technology and become less dependent on a single vendor.
Trainium 3: the next generation
During the event, Amazon also revealed details of Trainium 3, its upcoming artificial intelligence chip. According to Morgan Stanley, this chip will be manufactured by Taiwanese company TSMC and designed by the company Alchip.
