My View on Brave Browser and it’s Future

My View on Brave Browser and it’s Future

Previously I had stated that Brave Broswer was running out of steam and there was some blowback I got for saying that. Brave Browser was launched in 2018 and I have been a user full time now for over a year.

Initally there were very few issues as there where not a ton of users however as user ship grew more and more issues arose. This really became apparent with the onset of COVID as this lead to an increase in both usage and a decrease in ad revenue being generated.

On the community page there was a ton of push back to what was occurring. A lot of people seem to disregard Brave’s founding principle. BAT or Basic Attention Tokens whole purpose was to pay you to look at advertising. Initially this even went as far as to block out Youtube ads which was amazing as I tend to watch long documentary type videos. Brave though has changed a lot since launch and has really wavered in their initial goal. Gone are the days of blocking Youtube ads and slowly more and more ads have snuck their way onto my pages.

If the BAT payouts were still the same I would have a ton less to complain about. However, BAT rewards have been slashed twice and they changed their algorithm. These changes are pretty radical to what initally was the pitch to users as if you do not interact with the banners when they appear they will stop appearing. As someone who gets in the zone and makes not of the banners I often do not click on the Fanatics, Amazon or EBay banner and visit these websites later. This though is now well a poor decision as you need to click on the banner than push it to the side for later.

Projects changing and evolving is nothing new or different in the crypto sphere. However, as a browser that is suppose to reward you for data harvesting it’s disturbing to see less and less reward for the same amount of usage. At the end of the day Brave wants to harvest data and use referral codes to benefit themselves however the users are getting less and less. The lack of transparency is a whole other beast as we, the users, do not know for sure where the funds they collect go. We do not know even if they truly do give us as much as revenue as they claim they do.

The security offered by Brave is top notch however that was not what it was founded upon alone. It was suppose to reward users for using it and for their data but it is rapidly failing to do so. While companies are rapidly improving financially it will be interesting to see if the BAT rewards increase. It would be crazy to think they would return to what they were but to meet in the middle should be something that is possible but only time will tell.

I hope you enjoyed this post. If you have not checked out all of the Earn options on Coinbase Earn I highly recommend it as they have $177+ in crypto you can earn! I have my referral links below and would really appreciate it if you would use them thank you!
