Over the years, I have gotten to see Brave grow from just a couple million users to 120 million-plus users today, and I have to say, thinking about that is just so wild to me. One of the first things that got my attention with Brave was its BAT rewards at the time I can't think of anyone else who did anything like this. As I started using Brave, BAT honestly came as a bonus because I loved the product and its built-in privacy-protecting features.
For the first time in years, Roadmap 4.0 is bringing significant changes to the Brave Rewards ecosystem. First and foremost is the announcement of several new revenue-generating sources, like Brave Wallet revenue-generating features (swaps, cross-chain bridging, NEAR Intents, on- and off-ramps, .brave domains sold through Brave Wallet), Brave Rewards Card revenue, and BravePay protocol revenue. These new revenue-generating sources, be it in BAT itself or fiat used to buy back BAT, enable a bold new step for BAT's utility by evolving beyond the original browser-based rewards.

Though the good news for the future of BAT released in the Roadmap 4.0 does come with one pretty significant drawback. Brave Ads Notification unit will begin a gradual sunset by the end of 2026 as more of the utility features are activated. This will impact every Brave Rewards user, since the Brave Ads Notifications are the push notifications that everyone who opts into Brave Rewards receives and uses to earn BAT. Currently, the only other ways I can think of that users generate BAT are by opening new tabs, which sometimes have ads, and the Brave Rewards Offer Wall.
While Brave has not announced anything like what I am about to state, I have a strong feeling they will. The current Brave Rewards Offer Wall is hidden/not easily accessible. To access it, you either type brave://rewards/ or click the BAT icon next to where you type web addresses or search. Honestly, I couldn't even think of how to find the Offer Wall at first besides using the brave://rewards/ method and had to Brave Search the other way to see it. Considering how well Brave is run, I would assume that they are going to either A move the Offer Wall to somewhere more accessible or B overhaul the whole thing so that users would interact with it more and thus know where it is.
When Brave gets closer to launching these new streams and begins the sunset for Ad Notification, they are going to release an updated tokenomic in a blog post. Once done, it will be interesting to see how the community reacts. Does this end up pushing away/cutting off more BAT holders, or does it end up benefiting everyone and hopefully supercharging BAT's utility? Only time will tell!
