Playing with candles and lights

By Quick silver | Celebrating life | 1 Mar 2023

I am in the process of producing a series of guided meditation videos, and I have to say since the beginning it was an absolutely rewarding creative experimental process.

First off, ideating and planning for these videos was a lot of fun. I had to really think about the different ways I could showcase the flames of the candles and how the changing lights could help to create a calming and peaceful atmosphere. I spent a lot of time looking up different candle arrangements and researching the best ways to film them. It was a lot of trial and error, but that's what made it so rewarding.

The best part was that I could let my creativity run wild. I experimented with different angles, lighting, and even added some "special effects" to really enhance the mood of the videos. It was a great way to challenge myself and try new things.

But it wasn't just about the creative process, it was also about the message behind the videos. Candles and changing lights can really tie into meditation topics such as being present in the moment and the ephemerality of life. The flickering flames and shifting colors of the lights can serve as a reminder to live in the present and to appreciate the beauty of each passing moment.

One of my favorite parts of the process was discovering the different aesthetic results that could be achieved with different settings. For example, I found that filming in a completely dark room with just one candle created a really intimate and introspective atmosphere. On the other hand, filming with multiple candles and different colored lights produced a more uplifting and energetic vibe.

It was really cool to see how small adjustments to the setting could completely change the overall feeling of the video. This allowed me to experiment and try new things, which was both fun and rewarding.

And of course, recording the videos themselves was a lot of fun as well. There's something about watching a candle burn and the way the flames dance that is just so mesmerizing. I found myself getting lost in the moment and forgetting about everything else around me. It was a great way to practice being present in the moment and focusing on the here and now.

Overall, creating these guided meditation is allowing me to combine my love of filmmaking with my interest in meditation and mindfulness. I was able to challenge myself creatively and experiment with different settings and arrangements, all while conveying a meaningful message through the visuals.

If you're interested in trying something similar, I highly recommend it. It's a great way to practice mindfulness and creativity at the same time. So go ahead, grab some candles and experiment with different settings. You never know what you might discover!
