Most of the newcomers to the Medium and even some veterans who have not gotten along so well so far or they have had a drastic drop in their historical metrics. They wonder how they can make more money writing in Medium because subscribers grow every month, but earnings remain low. What would they be doing wrong? How to increase the earnings? What is the secret to making more money writing in Medium?

These and many other questions have made many writers and enthusiasts of Medium give up writing here.

The secret to making more money writing in Medium.

One day I shared a print of a story of mine that made more than $100 and someone was amazed at how I had done it. Maybe you say what is $100 in front of the many thousands of dollars that some make with a single story? The problem is not really the more than $100, but that this story was not selected by the curatorship to be distributed on topics, and even worse, I don’t even have that many followers, where I get readers to accumulate a reading time for more than $100?

During my time as a writer in Medium, I was able to understand how metrics work in relation to reading time and engaging with readers.

When you write a story behind Medium’s paywall, check how much money it will make for you in the first two hours of accumulated reading time. After that, check your next story that will be posted, how much it will do in the same reading time as the previous story. Calculate the approximate value, because the values will never be the same. If with a story containing two hours of readings you get at least $2.97, take this value and multiply by the number of days of the month, the result you have, multiply by three. These last three are three stories that you post daily. In my calculations, if you arrive with this base of $2.97, in your first month of challenge you close the month with $267.

Your question may be: but how will I increase my earnings that way?

Have you noticed the calculations above? If not, read the paragraph again to understand it better. Here’s the thing, if you write three stories a day, and each story makes you $2.97 for every first two hours of reading time, you’ll get $267, remembering that this is just an estimate based on the earnings of each new story you write. The stories you wrote the previous month, they continue to earn you money. So if in your first month of challenge you earned $267, in this new month you earn more than last month because each day you increase the profits with the news stories and the old ones are still being read. That’s why you see a lot of Medium writers posting two, three, four, or even five stories every day. These writers are obeying a goal.

This is how you make more money writing in Medium. It doesn’t matter if you have many followers or not. If you stay focused on quality, interactive, attractive content for the audience for which you direct the content, the money will only be a consequence.

The earnings depend on how much you work for your audience because they are the ones who interact with the content you write. Keep the focus of your own authentic content dedicated to the right audience.
