The EOS Hacker: Master of the Blockchain

Important Notice:

The Callisto Network community wrote the "Dexaran - The Man Behind the Code" series to present Dexaran's history and contributions.

Recently, Dexaran initiated a fundraising campaign for DEX223 and has been presenting himself as "The Man Behind The Code," a title previously recognized by the Callisto Network community. However, following the events of February 16, where Dexaran conducted a rug pull affecting the Callisto Network community, the author of this series wishes to clarify that he does not in any way endorse Dexaran's actions or behavior towards the community.

Who Is Dexaran — The Man Behind The Code. Part 5

In a comprehensive analysis published by EOS GO, Dexaran has demonstrated its in-depth knowledge of blockchain vulnerabilities.

His article, “EOS Network Congestion by DDoS Analysis,” provides a detailed examination of the potential for a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on the EOS network. Not only did this analysis serve as a wake-up call for the EOS community, but it also added another layer to the mythos surrounding Dexaran.

The analysis targeted the EOS network, explaining the complex relationships between block creation, processing time limits, and the triggering of congestion mode. Dexaran meticulously described how a malicious actor could, hypothetically, exploit these factors to trigger a network congestion mode, thus provoking a DDoS attack.

Dexaran — EOS Infiltration: Master of Chaos.

He then presented a case study illustrating how the network can be turned off when an anodyne EOS contract is overloaded. The result was an artificially induced congestion of the EOS blockchain, which profoundly affected the users. It clearly showed that with just 7,000 EOS, someone could significantly impact the EOS network over an extended period. Moreover, the cost of such an attack was minimal — around 2 EOS per month.

The network recovery rate, which Dexaran considers too slow, was highlighted as an issue that reduces the cost of such a DDoS attack. Dexaran argued that a faster recovery rate would force potential attackers to expend more resources, thereby increasing the cost and reducing the attractiveness of such an attack.

What really captivated the blockchain community was that Dexaran conducted this illustrative study without causing any lasting damage to the network. This demonstrated his exceptional technical prowess and reinforced his reputation as a “white hat” hacker dedicated to improving the blockchain ecosystem.

The crypto community was captivated by the fact that Dexaran conducted this illustrative study (most would say hack) without causing any lasting damage to the network. Once again, Dexaran challenged developers and network architects to address this issue.

This detailed analysis is an example of his knack for identifying overlooked vulnerabilities. It demonstrates his exceptional technical prowess and commitment to strengthening blockchain security, thus furthering the mythology surrounding him.

As we’ve seen, Dexaran’s journey has taken many unexpected turns, and his creation of Callisto Network was a testament to his innovative spirit and unyielding belief in decentralization. His vision turned Callisto Network into a significant player in the blockchain ecosystem, impacting how we view security and sustainability in this space.

But, Dexaran’s story does not end here!

His influence continues to echo within the blockchain community, pushing boundaries and challenging the status quo. In the next episode of our series, we’ll explore a proposal about marking a new era in Ethereum’s community: The ERC-223 token standard.

Join us in this ongoing innovation journey, on Monday, August 28th.
