Blockchain and cryptocurrency are changing everything, it’s like the gateway to the next face of humanity's era. We saw that with the invention of electricity and many others. The disruptive nature is so great and with so much speed a lot of us have been caught off guard.
There is so much to talk about blockchain and I really will like to talk more about it but that’s a topic for another time and also, I feel almost all of us know about it now knowing how fast it's moving.
A lot of things happening on the blockchain system, that's amassing a lot of attraction in these recent times is NFT’s.
What then is NFT one may ask? NFT is the abbreviation for Non-Fungible Token and these are unique digital assets that can’t be exchanged for another like that of money or coins. NFT can also be described as a unique certificate to a digital asset owned by someone.
Now assets that aren’t NFT’s are known as Fungible and bitcoin, Ethereum, and all other coins fall under this category simply because the value of 5 BTC in someone’s wallet is the same value for another person holding 5 BTC.
An example of an NFT is a painting, another person can have the same painting you may ask what makes it unique? Well though you may have the same painting the year or the material used won’t be exactly the same. Just like the Mona Lisa, and the paintings of our Godfathers in art. need I say more? Speaking of Godfather, here is my first NFT created on AtomicHub; https://wax.atomichub.io/profile/wbjr.wam?match=The%20DogFather&order=desc&sort=transferred ...I call it the DogFather.
Now to the main topic; my perspective about NFT’s as an artist. Before I go on, “I think everyone should get into this.” Whether you are an artist or not. I think NFT’s are great and are revolutionary. There have been some concerns going around about Nifty’s, most of these coming from some good artist.
Their claim; artworks that have been tokenized are not real arts. I actually went by listening to their claims and to some extent their claims are legitimate. I just have a few concerns with their claim. Do they classify digital arts as arts? Then the question is what is art actually?
I believe art exists in various forms and requires understanding to fully comprehend what it entails. Most people haven’t taken the time to understand what NFT’s about. Because with NFT’s artist gets to authenticate their arts and know can determine the fraction of the world that gets to legitimately own their piece.
NFT’s at their infant stage solves the problem of the copy and paste era established by the internet. Yes, the copy and paste era is still going to be around for some time but people have a unique certificate indicating ownership on the blockchain and as I said gives more room for authenticity.
NFT is beginning to touch other sectors like entertainment and media. Want some names in the space; the Band King of Leon, Lebron James, and Jack Dorsey. I can go on and on but this is where I draw the line. The potentials Nifty have is huge and so this is not the time to argue but rather learn about how to capitalize on it. Like cryptocurrencies, NFT’s is here to stay.
