In SuperRare 1.0, the core team hand-picked and approved artists to mint their works on a shared smart contract as SuperRare NFTs.
SuperRare 2.0 plans to change this by creating a DAO and decentralising control of the platform putting it into the hands of artists and collectors.
Central to this is the creation of the Rare / $Rare token which facilitates community governance and opens up the possibility of staking as well.
I dig through the papers done by SuperRare to asses the shift in the nature of the project and look at whether buying the Rare token on launch makes sense to me.
