A mysterious transaction of 1.2 million dollars in Bitcoin to the "genesis wallet" has shocked everyone a bit. What do we know?
An anonymous user made this transaction over the weekend associated with the creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto and the first wallet ever created.
The wallet in question has not recorded any activity for many years and has now reached a balance of around 100 BTC. For this reason, the funds would be considered lost. The wallet from which the transaction started is now empty and was originally financed with complex transactions from 12 other addresses. among these, as reported by Arkham Intelligence, at least one belongs to Binance.
There are still few hypotheses on the matter, one emerges from Conor Grogan of Coinbase, which is also the most plausible: Either Satoshi woke up, bought 27 BTC from Binance and deposited them in his wallet, or someone just burned a million dollars.
Satoshi Nakamoto therefore seems to still be in circulation, keeping his private keys and able to move his funds, but the scenario now seems far-fetched for most of the community.
Since SN "disappeared", the Genesis wallet has increased its funds through donations, originally the balance was 50 BTC, at the end of 2023 72 BTC and now 99.67 BTC, for a value of 4.3 million dollars.
Could it simply be a "mistake"?
What is certain is that Binance should be able to know who it is, given that KYC is mandatory for certain sums.
