PEAKD a dApp in the Web3 Hive Ecosystem

By MikeZillo | Blockchain Insights | 17 Mar 2023

Dear Publish0x Community, welcome back to the fourth installment on the in-depth look at the Hive ecosystem.
Today we will talk about the platform born from the fork of Steem: Peakd, on the Hive blockchain; while on the Steem blockchain it is called SteemPeak.

20 Seconds

The trigger for this platform is related to the time it takes the blockchain (Steem in this case) to be able to write comments: 20 seconds.
Its developer @asgarth began this development with steempeak.com, which leverages Steeem’s blockchain, in 2018.

The method he was investigating at the time of SteemPeak was to be able to queue comments to be then recorded chronologically on the blockchain.

Of course, the comment was visible in real time, but to be actually written to the blockchain required waiting 20 Seconds
Following the Steem fork that originated Hive in 2020, the SteemPeak platform also received its counterpart for the Hive blockchain: PeakD.
With Hive’s blockchain, however, registration times have definitely decreased: every 3 seconds data is transcribed to the blockchain!

The interface

As we can see from the image above, the layout of the platform is very similar to that of @ecency: on the right we have the user’s avatar and in the upper bar the offered explorer possibilities.
By pressing in the pencil in the upper right next to the avatar, we enter the editor for publishing one’s post.

Note that although the layout is slightly different, an attempt has been made to but keep access very instinctive and immediate; much easier is the possibility of scheduling the publication of the article through the “Schedule” button. In the Ecency platform, however, we need to look for it in the “Advanced” section, where we can also go and set the rewards to 100% HP in order to be able to participate in PUM.

The profile

By clicking on the avatar, we have access to all the important options for profile management, as with ecency we can select witnesses and make proposals (the same process as ethereum EIPs)
The different and more comprehensive part compared to ecency is the wallet management interface:

The wallet management screen is graphically different from ecency, but the controls are the same, since they have a green highlighted tile they are more intuitive in use.
The same goes for the token engine management interface.

As you can clearly see, there is a tab labeled “games,” this section contains games that use both the Hive and Steem blockchains.
As for PeakD, as on ecency, it is also possible to get an affiliate link, in order to get it you need to follow the directions below.

Let’s go back to the avatar menu:

We scroll to the end and click on the “PeakD Settings” item, and another screen pops up:

We follow the icons on the left side of the screen and click the icon with the rectangle and the little arrow to be able to access the screen that will then provide us with the referral link.

In this screenshot we see what are our affiliations with the referral we provided to our friends. The whole thing, however is connected to the Hiveonboard platform.
Hiveonboard is the platform that directly handles refs on Hive.

That’s all for today, we’ll check back next time with the next Hive satellite: LeoFinance!

See you!
