Last summer we went to Santa Maria (Portugal), it's one of the most remote and smallest islands from the Azores (there are only two smaller ones). We surrounded the island by a magnificent path that goes all around the island. Doing this trip we explored its stunning beaches, lush green landscapes and foggy peaks away from the beaten track. An outstanding experience!
It feels extremely good being lost somewhere on a small romantic island in the Atlantic with nothing but us, our backpacks, our feet that carry us on and the only orientation - a map👣🗺

We never worried about not knowing where we are (on the contrary), yet we were happy encountering a reference point from time to time. Like the tiny lighthouse in the background ⚓️ Just to be certain that we were still on the right track 😉
And then all left to do was savor the moment with a great, well-earned lunch! 🍵

We fell in love with this tiny island, so green, so quit, so authentic! Some Pictures we took walking around this breathtaking Island:
