The non-existent ethical issue with BNPL

By LeftFooted | bitcoinea | 19 Oct 2025

Some people believe that you shouldn't buy it if you can't afford it to pay it in full now.

Some people take it one step further: if you can't afford to buy it twice, then you can't afford it.

But why?

The first thing we seem to remember is that the rich, and I mean the very rich, weaponise debt all the time.

They're all indebted.

That's how they stay rich.

Billionaires who own large stake in companies are constantly borrowing money at either zero or low interest rate using their stock as collateral, which means they're more or less constantly indebted.

And so what?

Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) options with Klarna and PayPal are becoming increasingly popular, and I'm not sure why people have a downer on it, especially with BNPL plans with zero interests, which, in most countries where this is available, is what you get when you pay in three installments.

My problem with people who complain about this system is that I see it is a 'holier-than-thou' argument, and holier-than-thou arguments are always BS.
