Is KuCoin raising fees?

By LeftFooted | bitcoinea | 8 Aug 2023

I use KuCoin for the sole purpose of converting Publish0x’s AMPL quickly and cheaply.

I send AMPL, and ETH, to my KuCoin, and then what I generally do is I convert both into Algorand, mostly because it is super fast and super cheap, and send it either to my ALGO wallet or to my Binance or Coinbase or whatever.

The whole thing used to inexpensive.

Receiving transactions was free, moving funds from funding to trading account was free, turning AMPL into USDT and then into ALGO was free.

And then sending ALGO wasn’t free because Algorand fees apply, but they’re so cheap it didn’t really matter.

Usually a matter of cents.

However, for some reason, the fee is much higher than before.

It applies to ALGO and it even applies to Fantom. I haven’t tried any other crypto, but I suspect it simply applies to all of them.

Which is annoying.

Presumably KuCoin is now imposing some extra semi-hidden fees, making transactions less cheap.

And that is on top of the newly implemented KYC requirement, lest we forget.

Unfortunately there ain’t a lot I can do.

As ever, when these things happen, the only thing you can do is accumulate funds and then simply suck it up and pay the fee.

That way, you’re still paying fees that are higher than they should be but A, it makes more sense to pay, say, a $1 fee on a $10 transaction than it does on $4 transaction and, more importantly, at least you only pay it once.

It still sucks, though.

These fckn exchanges are all getting worse, man.

One way or another, it feels like they’re all a tiny bit worse than they were, say, two years ago.

Maybe it’s just my impression.

Maybe I’m wrong.

But unfortunately I don’t think I am.
