As you might be aware, I am into gaming as well. I just came across an interesting newsfeed and checked if it is true. But yes, Microsoft really has announced that they gonna close Mixer for good. Last year Mixer was all over the news in the gaming world when they decided to offer Ninja and shroud exclusive contracts for streaming on Mixer.
And not even a year later they have to announce that they gonna close Mixer. From an economical point of view, it makes sense as those streamers never reached the same numbers of viewers as they had on Twitch. And I think Microsoft struggled to offer something similar like Twitch Prime to attract more streamers. However, I thought it was beneficial in many ways to have some competition for those gaming-related streaming platforms. In 2017 we have seen even cryptocurrency donations have been adopted by twitch.
And my hope was that the gaming sector could have an important role in driving crypto adoption by tech-savvy people like gamers. Even better if there is another platform that might think about offering crypto as part of supporting as well. Unfortunately, in 2020 we have to admit crypto donations didn't take off. The majority of people on twitch think it is simply too complicated if there are lots of other ways to support their favourite streamer.
Mixer said that they will partner with Facebook Gaming now. Not a fan of Facebook at all after the showed several times that privacy isn't their strongest horse. However, streamers like Ninja and shroud made probably the best deal of their life by looking at the $ they got paid from Microsoft and are now free again.
