Who is Beeple?
Mike Winklemann, otherwise known as "Beeple" is a graphic designer. He has made short films and mainly focuses on digital art. This digital art could be 2D, 3D or even a moving animation. He has his own Instagram page where he displays his creative designs. It was almost a week ago from today that an anonymous person, his pseudonym was MetaKovan and bought an NFT art piece from Beelple for $69 Billion dollars in crypto. This is a historic event because it is one of the top 10 highest price paid for an art piece made by a living artist.
What is an NFT?
In simple terms, an NFT is a Non-Fungible Token and it is stored on the blockchain. It contains digital assets like music, video, gifs and all forms of art. When someone auctions for someone's art and buys it online in the (NFT) network they get digital ownership of that piece. This is almost like a right to authenticity over art unlike when posting your art online in which anyone might steal and infringe upon.
What happened at the Auction?
Mike Winklemann had made another NFT art piece, it was more of a giant collage. It was made up of almost 5000 individual pieces and was 21,069 pixels by 21,069 pixels. The NFT is called "Beeple, Everyday" and went up for auction last week and was bought by MetaKovan, which is a pseudonym. It is speculated that this purchase actually benefited MetaKovan but has really displayed to the world that art can be found in anything. It is believed that in the future this art piece could be worth even more.
