JASON DREYZEHNER PROPOSES NEW BIGINT CHIP TO UPGRADE BITCOINCASH
The Bitcoin Cash community has a new consensus proposal to consider, CHIP 2024–07 BigInt, which aims to increase the maximum length of Virtual Machine (VM) numbers from 8 bytes to 258 bytes. This change, proposed by Jason Dreyzehner and titled “High-Precision Arithmetic for Bitcoin Cash,” is aimed at enhancing the precision and efficiency of arithmetic operations within the Bitcoin Cash network. The proposed increase follows the 2022 extension from 4 to 8 bytes and aligns with an earlier limit set by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2010. This proposal is designed to support higher-precision arithmetic without significantly increasing the processing or memory requirements of the VM, thereby improving contract security and reducing transaction sizes. Feedback and contributions to the proposal are currently being solicited from the community on https://github.com/bitjson/bch-bigint.
